ROSGOE R. SEILING, OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS.
CAMPING GRA'IE.
Application filed. March 25, 1921. Serial No. 455,536.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that Roscoe R. iiiElLING, a citizen of the United States of America. residing at Little Rock, in the county of Pulaski and State of Arkansas, has invented new and useful Improvements in Camping Grates, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and efiicient grate suitable for use as an element of a camping outfit and adapted to be folded into compact form for transportation; and with'this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, where1n:-
Figure l is a front view of the grate its operative position.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same.
Figure 3 is an edge view showing the device folded.
Figure at is a detail view showing the means for locking the grate in its folded position.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view of one of the guard hangers.
Figure 6 is a detail view of one of the guard plates.
The grate proper consists of sections 10 and 11 connected at their inner ends by a hinge joint 12 of the stop hinge type to provide against sagging when arranged in the extended position indicated in Figure 1, and to the remote ends of the sections are pivotally connected the legs or standards 13 having stop pins 141; for limiting the outward swinging movement thereof while permitting inward swinging movement to the folded position indicated in Figure 3 while the parts may be secured as by means of a hook 15 engaging a staple 16 attached respectively to the outer end bars of the grate sections. I
Detachably connected with the grate sections in the plane of one of the side edges thereof by means of hanger hooks 17 are the guard plates or shields 18 consisting of sheet metal such as tin or the like designed to shield or protect an open fire built under the grate against a wind or excessive draft or for the protection of the attendant in superintending cooking operations on the grate, it being understood that while the guard plates are shown at only one side of the grate they may be variously positioned with reference thereto or duplicated as required to afford the desired protection, and when the device is folded said plates may be arranged between the plane of the sections of the grate proper.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is A camping grate having foldably connected sections provided at their adjacent ends with stop hinges, foldable legs pivotall mounted at the remote ends of the sections and provided with means limiting them to perpendicular positions with reference to said sections, the stop hinges serving to hold the sections in spaced relation when they are in folded position, a hook pivotally connected with one of the sections and engaging the eye on the other section when the two are folded, and guard plates swingingly suspended from hooks depending from the under edges of the sections, said guard plates folding down against the sections to be retained within the space be tween the two when the sections are in folded position.
In testimony whereof he ture.
affixes his signa ROSCOE R. SEILING.
