Be it known that l, U'rro German, a citizen of Switzerland, and resident of Aarau, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Washing Crockery, of which the following is a specificatio y The present invention. relates to a machine for washing crockery, in which the crockery is placed into a basket and the baskem with the crockery are vertically reciprocated in a vessel containing the washingaliquid. m
Luring such reciprocating movement or the baskets the cleaning liquid is in a continuous circulation drawn by a pump from the vessel and squirted through a pipe provided with outlets against the basket holder, so that the pipe will revolve under the reaction. The motor driving the ump serves also to move the crockery has zets up and down. For holding the baskets stationary in any position a disengageable clutch is provided. Furthermore an arrangement is provided to manually operate the basket, in case the motor drive should fail.
The subject matter of the present invention has been exemplified in a constructional form in the accompanying drawings.
Fig. l is a partrear" elevation of the washing vessel with the arrangement for vertically reciprocating the crockery basket carrier.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. l.
' Fig. 3 is the driving mechanism for the hask'et carrier on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section through the washing vessel with the discharge pipe.
Figure 5 is a vertical section through the parts shown in Figure 2.
On the shaft 2 is fitted a worm 3. which drives a worm wheel 4, fitted to a sleeve 5 having clutch teeth at both ends. This sleeve 5 is fitted loose on two shafts 6, 6, which abut with their ends in the middle of the sleeve 5. On the shaft 6 is fitted a clutch member 7 which is axially displaceable on a key in the shaft 6.
The clutch member which is coupled by MD a ring 8 to the lever 9, coupled b levers t5 the shaft 6 may by the aid of the ring 8' and 11. to a crank 12, may by t e turning of said crank 12 be engaged and disenga ed respectively. .The clutch member 7' w ich is fitted in a similar manner to basket 5 3.214.. herial No. 851,622.
and the levers 9, 10, 11 be engaged and disen aged respectively by means of a crank 12'. y aid of these two cranks 12 and 12 therefore the driving mechanismfor raismg and lowering the individual crockery ba slkets may be engaged or disengaged at wn The shaft 6 is journalled in a guide bar 13 rigidly fitted to the vessel 6 and carries a sprocket 14-, which is coupledb an endless chain 15 with a sprocket 16f 1ournalled in the guide rail 13 at 16.
The movement of the worm 3 (Figure 5) is transmitted by means of a worm wheel 4 to the endless chain 15. With this chain the arm a extending through the slot a arranged within the carrier 17 which is vertically 'displaceable upon the guide rail 13, is connected. if the chain is operated by means of the shaft 6 the carrier 1? is moved up and down by means of the arm a actuated by the chain.
@n the slide 1'? is fitted anarm 18, which is rigidly secured by means of an eye 19 to a round rod 20. The rod 20 is secured by means of a key 21 to a second slide 22, disposed in a guide 23 above the back of the vessel. The slide 22 is further coupled by means of a chain 24, running over a roller 25, with a counterpoise 26. y @n the slide 22 lugs 27 and 2'? are provided, to which the carrier frame 28 for the crockery basket is detachably secured. The slide 22 with the carrier frame securec thereto is continuously reciprocated in a vertical direction by means of the rod 20 coupled to the slide 17 and the endless chain 15, as soon as the clutch '2' has been engaged; thereby the on the carrier frame is dipped into the washing vesselBO. is disengaged by means of crank 12, the basket carrier will stop in any position.
lf, for some reason, say in consequence of a breakdown of the driving motor, the carrier frame 28 can for the time being not be mechanically operated, the key 21 is withdrawn. Then the carrier frame 28 is in no rigid connection with the driving -mechanism and the carrier frame 28 can be easily reciprocatedvertically by the o erator b aid of a handle 29, as the Weig t s of the iull basket of crockery is counterbalanced: The counterpoise may also compensate small irregularities inthe working of the driving engine. 1% second basket may When the clutch 7 be reciprocated by shaft 6 by means of a mechanism which is not shown in the drawing but resembles the one hereinbefore described both in design and operation.
Beneath the bottom 31 of the washing vessel 30a centrifugal pump 32 is arranged,
which is driven by the same shaft'2 which drives the means for operating the baskets.
This pump communicates by pipe 36 with the vessel 1), and carries a revoluble dischar pipe 33, which has two discharge opemngs 34, 35. When the shaft 2 is revolved, the pump 32 will pump such liquid through the pipe36 from the vessel 6 and force the same through the pipe 33 which revolves under the reaction, against the basket carrier 28.
