To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANTON MAzzANovIoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window and Door Clamps, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates generally to theatri- 0 cal scenery, and more particularly to a clamping device that is utilized for clamp ing the frame of a door or window tot-he frame or upright battens of a fiat or upright piece of scenery that is intended to represent a wall, partition, or like structure.

The principal objects of my inventlonare to provide a relatively simple and pract cal form of clamp that may be easily and quickly applied for use and which Wlll be effective in clamping the frame of a door or window to a flat without the use of nails, screws, or like fastening devices.

lVith the foregoing and other ob ects 1n view, my invention conslsts 1n certaln novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated 1n the accompanying drawings in which:

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention, 10 designates a fiat or upright piece of scenery, and which fiat includes a pair of upright battens 11, and which latter are preferably arranged at the sides of an opening for a door or window. In

the present instance I have shown my 1 mproved clamp applied to a door frame, which latter includes a pair of stiles 12, a lintel 18, and the usual side and top casings 14:.

My improved clamp includes a substantially U-shaped frame 15 preferably formed of metal and having its inner edges bent outwardly to form retaining lips 16. This frame is secured in any suitable manner to the rear or outer face of the door stile 12,

and removably positioned in said frame and reta ned therein by the lips 16 is a metal plate 17 with which is formed integral the outer end of the short leg of a horizontally disposed L-shaped bolt 18. The longer leg 19 of this bolt occupies a position parallel with the plate 17, and said longer leg is threaded in order to receive an internally threaded sleeve 20, the surface of which is preferably knurled in order that it may be readily manipulated.

Arranged for rotation upon the outer end of the sleeve 20 and held retained thereupon by a collar 21 that is secured to the said sleeve, 1s a ring 22 with the outer portion of which is formed integral two or more outwardly projecting ears 23, and which latter, when the device is in use, are adapted to bear directly against the rear face of the adjacent batten 11.

In the use of my improved door or window clamp, the frame of the door or window is inserted in the opening in the flat 10 between the battens 11, and after the parts have been positioned so that the casings lie directly against the front face of the fiat, the plate 17 is inserted downwardly into the frame 15, after which the sleeve 20 is rotated so that it moves outwardly on the threaded portion 19 of bracket 18. As this operation continues, the cars 23 on ring 22 will bear against the rear face of the adjacent batten, and as the sleeve 20 is tightened, the batten 11 and the casing 14; will be pressed together, with the result that the parts will be very firmly clamped to each other and the door or window frame retained in proper position upon the flat. Obviously by reversing the operations just described, the door or window frame may be easily and quickly removed from the flat.

A clamping device of my improved construction is comparatively simple, may be easily and cheaply produced, and is effective in eliminating much of the time and labor ordinarily involved in assembling scenery, and particularly the mounting of door and window frames in flats or like upright pieces of scenery.

It will be understood that minor changes in size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved window and door clamp may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A clamp for connecting a frame to a fiat, comprising a" substantially U-shaped support, an L-shaped bolt having the end of its shorter leg removably positioned in said support, the longer leg of said bolt being threaded, and an internally threaded sleeve mounted 011 the threaded portion of said bolt.-

2. The combination with a flat and a frame that is adapted to be removably positioned therein, of a supporting member on said frame, a plate removably positioned in said supporting member, a horizontally disposed L-shaped boltsecured tosaid plate,

and an internally threaded sleeve mounted on the threaded portion of 'sa'id'bolt and adapted to engage a part of the flat. The combination With a flat and a frame that is adapted tobe removably positioned therein, of a supporting member on said frame, a plate removably positioned in said supporting member, a horizontally disposed L-shaped bolt secured to said plate, an internally threaded sleeve mounted on the threaded portion of said bolt, and a flat engaging member loosely mounted on the end of said sleeve.

4. A clamp for connecting a frame to a flat, comprising a substantially U-shaped support, an L-shaped bolt having the end of its shorter legremovably positioned in said support, th longer leg of said bolt being threaded, an internally threaded sleeve mounted on the threaded portion of said bolt, and a flat engaging member loosely arranged on the outer end of said sleeve.
