To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE KRAsNovSKY, a citizen of CZecho-Slovakia, residing at Pensacola, in the county of Escambia and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wooden Shoe Soles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wooden shoe soles and has for its main object thereof to provide a wooden shoe sole which will have substantially the iiexibility of an ordinary leather sole.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a sole constructed of two sec tions with an interlocking joint between the two sections at the instep portion of the sole so as to permit of the sole bending with the foot while walking.

With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter' more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Figure 3 is a cross sectional view on the line III--III of Fig. 2.

Referring more in detail to the drawing there is shown a wooden sole 1 consisting of Sections 2 and 3. The upper edge of the sole 1 is recessed at 4 for the purpose of receiving the edges of an upper 5, of a shoe. The edge of the upper fits within the recess 4 and is secured therein by fastening means 6 such as nails or the like that extend through a'. binding strip 7 of leather or other desirable material whereby the sole is firmly secured to the upper of the shoe. The section 3 ofthe sole 1 constitutes an instep portion 8 terminating rearwardly in a heel portion 9. The section 2 forms the ball or tread portion of the sole 1 and is provided with an integral rib 1.0. The rib 10 is substantially circular in cross section and extends longitudinally of the rear edge of the sole section 2. The adjacent edge of the section 3 has a circular groove 11 adapted to receive the rib 10. The rib and groove connection 10 and 11 is spaced from the inner surface 12 of the sections 2 and 3 and the adjacent faces of the sections above and below the rib and groove are also slightly spaced from each other so as to allow a relative swinging movement in opposite directions between the sections 2 Xand 3. The inner surface 12 of the sections 2 and 3 is provided with a lining strip 13 of-leather or other suitable material which is secured thereto by fastening means 14. The lining 13 overlies the adjacent edges of the sections 2 and 3 so as to prevent the sections from pinching or injuring thefoot, while the seotions are moved in relation with each other when the sole is conforming to the movement of the foot.

As a. means for preventing accumulation of dirt or other foreign matter between the adjacent edges of the sections 2 and 3 there is provided a covering 15 of leather or other iexible material secured to the sections 2 and 3 by fastening means 16. As an additional means for securing the covering 15 to the sections 2 and 3 the upper edges of the covering are received within the sole recess 4, inwardly of the edges of the upper 5 and are retained therein by the fastening elements 6 and binding strip 7. While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention it is nevertheless to be understood .that minor changes may be made therein sections, theupper edges of the cover adapted to be received within `the said sole and heel recesses, and a iexible binding strip for retaining the edges of the covering within the recesses.
