Description

c. LEFFLER. VALVE REGULATING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-23. 192k. I
Patented 0ct.-3, 1922.
Patented Oct. 3, 1922.
GHRISTOPI-I LEFFLER, F BRUNSWICK, GERMANY.
VALVE-REGULATING nnvrcn.
Annlication filed August 23,1921. Serial No. 495,559.
To aZZ whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, OHRisroPH LEFFLER, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Brunswick, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Valve- Regulating Devices (for which I have. filed an application in Germany, July 5, 1920), of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to electric regulat-.
ing devices for prime-movers, such as wa terand steam-turbines and more particularly to a device of the type having a contact slide controlled by a centrifugal governor, such slide not taking part in the ro tation of the driven shaft andoperating by the aid of an electric current generated by the prime-mover a control motor which then adjusts the admission valve for the driving agent of the prime-mover.
In the drawings affixed to this specification and forming part thereof, a device embodying my invention is shown diagram- -matically by way of example. i i
Referring to the drawings upon a shaft a continuously rotated by a prime-mover is arranged a centrifugal governor b, which is adapted to move a sleeve 0 along the shaft 0;. A contact slide (Z is connected with this sleeve 0 in such a manner that the slide takes part in the reciprocating movement of the sleeve 0, but not in its rotation. To this end I the sleeve 0 is provided with a flanged disc 6 which rotates freely within a recess f'of the contact slide (Z. s
The electric current from the three wires g,h, '5 of the supply system passes across this contact slide (Z to a three phase or continuous current motor is, which, when supplied with current, performs a small angular motion only in one direction or the other and thereby opens or closes the admission valve controlling the driving agent.
If owing to a drop in the number of revolutions of the shaft 4; the sleeve 0 moves towards the left, the contact slide oZ will touch the contacts Z and Z so that the current in the conductors g, 71 passes through the wires 9 i into the control motor is.
In the other end position of the sleeve 0 the contact slide (Z in one or the other dithe contacts Z Z make connection between rection,. whereby the admission valve. for the driving agent is controlled, 5
In order to avoid that while thecontact slide (Z approaches thecontacts Z, Z or Z Z a contact be established by a trifling motion of the slide and in order further to avoid had contact, brake springs a, oi which have a clamping effect, are so disposed with relation to the contact slide 0Z that they deta1n the slide when moved by the governor b'until it is ableto perform a comparatively long stroke, which after having overcome the brake resistance allows it to make good contact with ample surfaces upon the contacts Z, Z or Z Z In order to prevent the contact from be mg maintained too long, once the regulation contacts have been reached, the contact slide 03 is withdrawn immediately after contact has been made with the stationary contacts Z, Z, or Z Z into an inoperative position. This is effected by aid of electro-magnets 0, 0 which by the contacting of the contacts 39,9 or 39 g and the closing of a c1rcu1t t or t attract pendulums 1- or T The lower ends of these pendulums engage pro ect1ons 's or 8 upon the slide and tend to push the contact slide cZ back so that the contact with the contacts Z, Z or Z Z is quickly broken again,'if the fluctuations in the number of revolutions of the driven shaft a are only insignificant. On the other hand if the speed of the shaft 00 drops considerably or very much exceeds apredetermined value, the power of the electro-magnets 0, 0 does not sufficeto detach the contact slide (Z from the contacts Z, Z or Z Z In this case an adjustment of the position of the admission valve for the driving agent takes place in correspondence with the variations in the number of revolutions of the centrifugal governor. i I
It will be obvious that the details of the apparatus may be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a device of the kind described in combination, a shaft, a centrifugal governor operatively connected with said shaft, a contact slide adapted to be imparted a reciproeating motion by said governor, electric means for adjusting the admission valve for the medium serving to drive said shaft, operative connection between said electric means and said contact slide for closing the circuit for actuating the adniission valve,
other electric means for pulling back the l contact slide and for interrupting the circuit and brake springs adapted to restrain the reciprocating movement of said slide so as to prevent insuflicicnt contact-making of said slide.
