EEVGTED FLDENG TABLE LEG.
. Application filed llecember 10, 1921. Serial No. 521,500.
vented a new and useful Pivoted Folding Table Leg, of which the following is a specilication. w
While adapted for use in connection with chairs and various other articles of furniture, this invention is primarily intended for attachment to-work-benches and other forms of tables (such as those used in factories for the support of power-driven sewing mja chines) which are subjected to constant vibration and has for an object the provision of means by which such vibration is substantially eliminated.
A further important object is the provision of means whereby the leg may be turned upon a pivot and folded against the under surface-` of the table when the latter is not in use or is to be transported.
ln the accompanying drawing, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout,
' Figure l is a side elevation of a table showing the positionassumed by' the legs when lowered; Figure 2 a plan v1ew of the under surface of the table with the legs thereof in the position shown in Figure l; Figure 3 a plan View of the under surface of the table with the legs in folded position; Figure 4 a detail view, on enlarged scale,v of a corner 0f the under surface of the table showing the recessed block into which the leg ts when lowered and the various positions which the leg can assume when turned upon itspivotafter removal from said block; and Figure 5 a partly sectional view of the corner shown in Figure 4f depicting the manner in which the le fits within said block and thus prevents vi ration of the table.
l indicates the top of the table and 2 the legs thereof. At each corner of the undery surface of the table is afiixeda block 3 provided with a recess 4 having 'an inclined walll 5 so that the leg, when lowered, will assume the 'position' shown in Figures l, 2 and 5.
A plate 6 is secured to one face of the,
leg near its upper extremity by screws 7 and hingedly connected at 8 with a plate 9 which is fastened to plate 10 by a pivot bolt 11, plate 10 being affixed to the under surface ofthe table, opposite and adjacent to said recess, by screws 12.
When the table is to be used, the legs are lifted from the position shown in Figure 3, turned upon pivot ll to the position shown (in full) in Figure 4f and then drawn within recess 4, the latter having substantially the same Width as the legs and thus securing the' latter against the rocking or side-wise movement common to Ordinarl table-legs,`
'W hen not required, t ek table may be placed on edge and a number thereof stored 1n mall space or conveniently transported by forcing the legs inwardly upon hinge 8, turning upon said pivot and lowering to the position shown in Figure 8.
What l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is l. Means for supporting a table compris ing a hinged member having a section pivotally secured to and rotatable upon a plate affixed lto the under surface of the table and a section secured to a leg or post disposed adjacent to the corners of the table, whereby the leg may be turned and swung upwardly against the under surface ofthe table when the latter is not in use. v
2. Means for supporting a table comprising ahinged member having a section pivotally secured to a plate af'iXed to the under surface of the table, a section secured to a leg or post disposed adjacent to the corners of the table, and a block disposed opposite said plate having a recess adapted to receive the upper portion of said leg.
3. Means for ,supporting a table comprising a hinged member having a section pivotally secured to aplate aHXed to the under surface of the table, a section secured to a leg or post disposed adjacent to the corners of the table, and a block disposed opposite said plate having a recess adapted to receive the upper portion of said leg, the rearl face of said block being` inclined. 1 l
