The ribbon is placed beneath the roller K, and over the rollers K and K and between the rollers, K and K The engagement of the ribbon between the last two rollers is such as to cause the forward movement of the ribbon when the roller, K is turned by turning the hand wheel, K clockwise as viewed in Fig. 2. I

The space between the front wall, A, and the chute, J, is a chamber into which the ribbon is deposited after it has passed the rollers.

- The ribbon passes behind the window, G and so closely to the latter as to clearly expose the upper face of the ribbon to view Advertising may be placed upon the upper face of the ribbon, the face opposite the face to which the matches are attached. While the machine is at rest, the advertising which is opposite the window remains exposed to view, and Whenever the'hand wheel is turned to draw the ribbon forward to release a match for discharge through the chute, other advertising surface on the ribbon will be brought to view be iind the window.

, The matches or similar articles are preferably attached to the ribbon, T, by lines of adhesive, 1 extending lengthwise of the ribbon, so that the adhesive makes only a limited engagement with the matches. Two such engagements between the match and the ribbon will ordinarily be sufficient. The material of the ribbon will have to be so strong and the adhesive will have to be so weak as to avoid tearing the ribbon during the detachment of the matches.

I claim as my invention,

1. An article of manufacture for use in a dispensing machine, said articlev comprising a flexible ribbon and matches arranged transversely to the ribbon and secured to one face of the ribbon by adhesive holding the match by a. force which is less than the force which would be required to tear the ribbon or to breakthe match, substantially as described.

2. An article of manufacture for use in a dispensing machine, said article comprising a flexible ribbon and matches arranged transversely to the ribbon and secured to one face of the ribbon by means holding the match by a force which is less than the force which would be required to tear the ribbon or to break the match, substantially as described.

3. As an article of manufacture for use in a dispensing machine, a magazine comprising a receptacle and a flexible ribbon and matches secured transversely to one face only of the ribbon by means permitting removal of the matches by a force which is less than the force which would be required to tear the ribbon or to break the matches, the ribbon being in the receptacle and folded back and. forth upon itself to bring parts of the match bearing face of theribbon toward each other and the matches on each such part extending into the spaces between the matches on the opposing such part, substantially as described.
