To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY B. Cox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cordele, in the county of Crisp and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Concrete.-
Culvert Form, of which the following is :1
specification.
The invention relates to new and useful improvements in concrete culvert forms en'r ployed for making concrete culverts or pipes of concrete or like plastic material. and the object of the invention is to provide an. improved sectional form or mould having the sections thereof joined in a novel manner so as to strengthen or brace the same and also facilitate the connection of the sections and the disconnection or separation thereof when the culvert has been formed, and eliminating the necessity of knocking or pressing the parts of the mould in order to remove the culvert thus obviating destruction or injury to the form or mould and liability to crack or destruction of the culvert as well as resulting in a saving of time and labor.
Vith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description pro-- ceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that with in the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention show can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail where in like characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, my improved concrete form is shown as comprising concentric outer and inner shells or walls 10 and 11 preferably of sheet metal and arranged in suitable spaced relation according to the thickness of the culvert to be produced. The outer shell comprises the semicircular sections 12 and 13, adapted to abut at their ed es to form a circular structure. The form is provided with means at one end whereby the culvert produced will be adapted for receiving and coupling at one end to the adjacent end of an adjoining section of culvert or pipe, which is of normal diameter. For this purpose, there is provided a flared portion 14 and the flange 14 extending therefrom parallel to the axis of the form and the shell proper.
In order to detachably join the edge of the sections 12 and 13 so as to permit the same to be readily assembled and disassembled and to reinforce the said sections at each edge portion, and preferably carried by one section, are strips 15 which are riveted or otherwise secured thereto as shown at 16 so as to project from said edges and overlap the adjacent edges of the section to produce an effective and smooth joint. Pivotally carried by said edge portions, preferably by means of the rivets securing the strips, are latches 17 each of which is provided with a notch or recess 18 in its bottom edge, intermediately of its end, the free ends being rolled or turned outwardly as indicated at 19 to facilitate operation thereof. The edges of the opposed section are provided with projecting headed lugs 20 corresponding in position and number to the latches and adapt-ed to be engaged by the latter through the medium of said recesses, so that by swinging the latches on their pivots to engage or disengage the lugs, the sections will be eflectively connetted to form a substantially rigid wall or shell. The sections may be disconnected to permit removal of the culvert moulded in the form as shown, the strips and latches are secured to the outer face so as to be in position for convenient manipulation and also to brace the form, especially the outer shell thereof.
The inner shell 11 is also constructed of sheet metal sections designated at 21 and 22, four of said sections being preferably employed as against two sections for the outer wall. The inner wall is provided with a flaring portion 23 and a flange 24 corresponding to the adjacent flared portion and flange of the outer wall when it is desired to produce a culvert pipe or tile of the flanged type. The sections 21 are provided in the inside adjacent the edges thereof, so as to project from said edges with strips 25 secured by rivets or the like 26, preferably at spaced points. The latches 27 are preferably pivoted to the sections adjacent the strips at the main portion of the form or mould and latches 28 are preferably pivoted to the rivets of the strips at the flange, so
as to engage headed lugs 29 carried by the sections 22 adjacent to the edges thereof and projecting inwardly, the latches having recesses 30 for this purpose. Angular lugs or lips 31 are secured to the strips of the sections 21, the same being preferably riveted as shown at 32 so as to be rigid, and the inturned portions thereof are preferably bent in arcuate form so as to stiffen the same and permit application of force to uncouple or disconnect the sections when the culvert or the like has properly dried and set. The lugs or lips 31 are also designed to receive transverse or cross braces disposed diametrically of the form and bracing the inner sections outwardly, when the device is in use, the concaved upper portions of said lugs or lips serving to retain the outer ends of said braces therein. In addition, the strips 25 and said lugs serve as braces for the inner sections and between the same.

A concrete culvert form comprising inner and outer shells, each shell comprising a plurality of sections disposed with their edges extending in the direction of the axis and in abuttin relation, latches bridging the coacting e ges of the sections of the n testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signa-v ture in the presence of two witnesses.
