ROTARY PUMP.

To all 1r]: 0122. it may concern Be it known that I, VVILmA M A. HA'roHnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Vayne, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotary Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements 1n rotary pumps.
The object of the invention is to prov de an improved simplified rotary pump with simplified means of maintaining the cyl ndrical piston in proper relation to the cylinder.
Objects which relate to details will definitely appear from the detailed descriptlon to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my lnvention by the devices and means described n the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred einbodiment of my invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which:
Fig. I is an elevation view of a pump em bodying the features of my invention.
Fig. II is a vertical longitudinal detail sectional view through a pump embodying the features of my invention, taken on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. III.
Fig. III is a detail transverse sectional view through my improved pump, taken on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Figs. I and II.
In the drawings the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines and similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Considering the numbered parts of the drawing, 1 is the cylinder, havin an intake port 2 and an, outlet port 3, an supported on any suitable base or flange. 5 and 6 are the cylinder heads. The cylinder head 5 is provided with a hub-like projection 7 having a stufling box 8 at the end, through which extends the drivin shaft 9 which is disposed in a suitable bus ing 10 within the said hub 7. A crank pin 11 is at the inner end of the shaft 9, and the end of the shaft is flanged at 12. The crank pin 11 extends into and is j ournaled in a bushing 13 which is retained and locked in position in the piston 4 by the longitudinal pin 14. The bush- 1ng is provided with a diametrically-disposed horizontal rib 15.
Cylinder head 6 has a hub 16 within which is secured the cap or plug 17 by a suitable cross pin. This cap has a diametrically-disposed vertical rib 18. Disposed between the cap 17 and the end of the bushing 13 is a transversely-disposed ribs 15 and 18.
Within the cylinder 4 in a radial slot in the piston is disposed a radial vane 20 having lateral projections 21 engaging in transverse slots 22 in the said cylinder heads, after the manner and style of my improved vanes described and claimed in my concurrent patent application Serial No. 446,469, filed Feb. 19, 1921. In this instance the vane is not made adjustable to take up wear and to be self packing. The pump being small and made to handle oil, such adjustable packing feature is unnecessary.
I desire to state that my improved pump can be considerably varied in detail without departing from my invention. I desire to claim the same specifically as well as broadly, as pointed out in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent is:
1. In a rotary pump of the class described, the combination of a suitable cylinder with intake and discharge ports, a cylindrical piston therein of less diameter than said cylinder, arranged and disposed in contact with said cylinder, suitable heads for the said cylinder, one of Which is provided with a hub and stufling box, a shaft disposed in said hub with a crank pin at its inner end on which said piston is journaled, a bushing between said erankpin and said piston secured to the said piston and having a diametrically-disposed rib at the end thereof, the opposite head of said cylinder being provided with amp and having within the same a diametrically-disposed rib, a block between said bushing and cap having recesses for the said ribs on opposite faces thereof disposed in planes at right angles to each other, and a sliding vane between said piston and said cylinder separating the intake from the discharge; all coacting substantially as described for the purpose specified.
2. In a rotary pump of the cla$ described, the combination of a suitable cylinder, a cylindrical piston therein of less diameter than said cylinder, arranged and disposed in contact with said cylinder, suitable heads for the. said cylinder, one of which is provided with a hub and stuffing box, a shaft disposed in said hub with a crank pin at its inner end on which said piston is journaled, a bushing between said crank pin and said piston secured to the said piston and having a diametricaly-disposed rib at the end thereof, the opposite head of said cylinder being provided with a cap and having within the same a diametrically-disposed rib, a block between said bushing and cap having recesses for the said ribs on opposite faces thereof disposed in planes at right angles to arranged and disposed in contact with said cylinder, heads for the said cylinder, a dr ving shaft journaled'in one head with a crank pin at its inner end on which said piston is j ournaled, a central hub cavity in the opposite head, a floating guide block arranged in said cavity with rectilinear guide means on its opposite faces disposed in planes at right angles to each other, and corresponding guides carried by the said piston and said cylinder head for maintaining the relative parallel position of said piston and cylinder when the pump is being driven, as specified.
