To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Arron E. Gone, a citizen of the United fstates, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have in ented new and useful Improvements in Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in gas stoves of the type gen.- erally used for household heating purposes, the principal object of my invention being to provide a relatively simple heating device that utilizes gaseous fuel, said heating device capable of being easily and cheaply produced and very eflicient in use.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will be hereinafter more fully d scribed and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. lis a top plan view of a heater constructed in accordance with my invention.

Fig. 1 is a vertical section taken on the line 14e of Fig. 1.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a practical embodiment of my invention, 10 designates the base portion of the heater body, the same being in the form of an upright hollow cylinder, preferably formed of sheet metal and provided adjacent to its lower edge with an annular row of air inlet openings such as 11.
Surmounting the body portion 10 is a truncated member that comprises an inwardly and upwardly inclined wall 12, and formed therein is an opening 13 that is closed by a section of transparent material such as glass or mica, and also formed in this wall is an opening 1 1 that is normally closed by a hinged or sliding door such as 15. The glazed opening 13 provides means for observing the action of the gas burner positioned in the chamber beneath the member 12, and the opening 141 gives ready access to the burner chamber for the purpose of lighting the burner therein.
Positioned within the cylindrical member 10 is a horizontally disposed ring 16 that is preferably formed of sheet metal, and secured thereto around the opening therein is the lower end of a vertically disposed cylinder 17 preferably formed of sheet metal and which extends upwardlythrough the opening formed by the inclined wall 12. The diameter of cylinder 17 is slightly less than the diameter of the circular opening in the upper end of the inclined annular wall 12,
and thus. a narrow annular opening 18 is formed between the upper end of, member 12 and the wall of cylindrical member 17.
Secured tothe upper portion of the inclined wall 12 is the lower end of a hollow cylindrical member 19 that is preferably formed of sheet metal the same being slightly larger in diameter than the cylindrical member 17, and the upper ends of the walls of the cylindrical members 17 and 19 are closed by a ring plate 20, preferably formed of sheet metal and inclined upwardly and inwardly from the outer member 19.
Leading from the upper end of the annular chamber between members 17 and 19 is vent pipe 21 that may be led to any de sired point, for instance, to a chimney openmg.
Arranged in the upper portion of the chamber between ring members 12 and 16 and the lower portion of cylindrical member 17 and the upper portion of base member 10, is a burner ring 22 having suitable perforations formed in its upper portion to form jet openings, and leading to said burner ring through inclined wall 12 and from a suitable source of supply is a gas supply pipe 23 in which is located a gas control valve 2-1 and a suitable device 25 that serves to admit air to pipe 23 and to mix said air with the gas passing through said pipe to the burner ring.
In the use of my improved gas heater, valve 2 1 is opened to permit a combustible mixture of gas and air to pass through pipe 28 to the burner ring and as said gas dis charges in jet form from the upper portion of said ring the jets, when ignited, will be directed upwardly and outwardly against the upper portion of the inclined wall or ring 12, thereby heating the same to a high degree, and the heat thereof will be radia'ted outwardly and upwardly throughout an annular zone adjacent to the lower portion of the heater. The inclined wall or ring serves to deflect the jets of burning gas and the products of combustion upwardly and inwardly against the outer surfaces of cylinder 17, thereby heating the same, and the products of combustion from the burning jets will pass upward through the narrow annular opening 18, thence upwardly through the space between cylindrical members 17 and 18 and finally into and through vent pipe 21. v
Thus,the entire upper portion of cylinder 17 will be uniformly heated and the greater portion of this heat will be absorbed by air which passes upwardly through said cylindri cal member '17 and which air enters base member through the openings 11 and leaves the heater through the open upper end oi cylindrical member 17.
