- SGN'.
inattesa.,
To llwhomitmay cof/wem. v
Be it known that I, VINCENZO GUARDINO, a citizen of theUnited States, and resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York have invented a new and Improved Sign, 0 which/the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to arsign structure, and aims to provide certain new and useful improvements. in connection with a device of this character.
, It is an object of the present invention to produce a sign which is primarily adapted to beplaced upon a supporting surface from which it may readily be removed, this sign supporting suitable advertising, which it `will serve to display in an attractive mantaken in connection with the drawings which latter illustrate One practical/embodiment of the same and in which;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a sign employing my'improved construction, and having certain of its parts broken away to disclose underlying construction, and
Figure 2 is a sectional plan View taken along the line 2-2 andvin the direction of the arrows indicated inFigure 1.
It will be seen in these views that the signv preferably includes three major portions, to wit, supporting members, a frame and the panels? supported by the latter, and as has been/shown in these views the supporting members are preferably constructed of channel iron and include a body portion 5, each presenting an L shaped upper portion 6. Foot pieces 7 are attached to the lower ends of the body 5, and as has been shown in Figure 2 these portions are preferably semi-circular in shape.
The frame supported by these members is conveniently quadrangular in shape, as has been shown in Figure 1, and includes side pieces 8 and end portions 9 the upper of which is formed with a longitudinal slot 10 extending through its body-said slot bea device of the character Specification of Letters Iateirit.v Pmi-@m1136561 Aug 229 19226 Application led March 27, 1922. Serial No. ilall.
ing indicated in dotted iinesin Figure 1, and
this slot is normally covered by means of a capping strip 11 carried by the uppermost of l theend portions 9. Thus the panel may be inserted through the slot in the upper end portlon 9 and the strip prevents the entrance' of water through the same, and a consequent discoloration of the panel. a
However, as has been shown in both of the figures, the inner edge of all of the members 8 and 9 presents a groove, and the panel 12 has those portions of its body adjacent its edges extending into this groove so that the frame supports the "panel, it beingv obvious that when the capping strip 11 is applied t0the frame that the entire sign will present a finished and pleasing appearance.
Finally with a view of preventing an accidental displacement of the panel 12 due to a blow or similar accident, T preferably provide securing members which may be in the nature of screws 13, and these screws extend through the portions of the frame andalso through the body of the panel 12. Thus the latter will be firmly anchored to the frame thereby precluding any danger of accidental dislodgment, and due to the fact that the frame is firmly attached by any suitable means such as screws 14 to the l. shaped parts of the body portions 5, within which it rests, it will be obvious that the whole sign will present a single unitary structure. r
Also due to the peculiar shape of the foot pieces 7 it will be obvious that it will require quite an effort for the sign to be accidentally turned over, thus avoiding anyv difliculty in this connection.
Thus the objects of this invention have been accomplished and it will be readily appreciated that numerous modifications of structure might readily be resorted to without in the least departing from the scope of my claim; which is A sign including supporting members, a frame carried by said supporting members and a panel carried by said frame, said supporting members including bodies angularly disposed, foot pieces attached to the bodies, l. shaped bod portions provided adjacent the upper en s of said bodies, said frame partially resting within said portions, 'and securing means extending through said L shaped parts and into those portions of the frame extendin into the same.
