PANEL.

WITNESS:
' INVENTOR ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LESLIE n. GARLINGHoUsE, or ASPINWALL, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOB 'ro BLAW- xNox COMPANY, A conrorm'rron or NEW JERSEY.
PANEL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 22, 1922.
Application filed October 13, 1919. Serial no. 330,345.
. L To all whom at may cousern:
Be it known that I, LESLIE HOLMES GAR- LINGHOUSE, a citizen of the United States, .residing at Aspinwall, in the county of Heretofore in panels of this character,
difficulty has been encountered by virtue of the fact that the panels, during use, would not remain true and would warp and become otherwise. distorted so that the edge portions of adjacent panels would only abut one another at intervals instead of throughout their length, as a result of which gaps would be left between the panels, causing among other things the formation of fins on the concrete. In addition it was difficult in the first instance to provide panels with straight edges, owing to the construction employed.
One 'of the primary objects of my invention is to overcome the foregoing difiicnlties by the provision of an improved panel of simple and rigid construction, which iseasy to manufacture. v
The foregoing together with such other objects as may hereinafter appear, or are incident to my invention, I obtain by means of a construction which I have illustrated in preferred form, in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fi re 1 is a bottom plan view of two.
pane s, as applied for the construction of a floor or ceiling; Figure 2 is a sect1on taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a section corresponding to Figure 3, but illustrating a modrfication of my invention; and Figure 5 1s a perspective of the end of a reinforcing member used in the anels.
Referring now to t e construction shown in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, it will be seen i that the panel is composed of a sheet metal plate 7, preferably rectangular in shape,
with the edge portions at the sides there-' i of bent preferably at right angles and then inwardly, preferably parallel .to the main portion of the plate. The side portions of the panels therefore are in channel like form which lends great rigidity to the panel longitudinally thereof. At the point where the edges of the plates 7 are bent to form the panel sides, I press a bead 8, extending longitudinally of the panel. It will be apparent that in the first instance, it is possible to make a' panel having this beaded construction more true than a panel having a plain side with the bead omitted, and
furthermore it will be seen that the bead cured by the general channel-like formation of the sides.
In order 'to reinforce the panels and lend rigidity transversely thereof, I provide a plurality of reinforcin members 9, preferably in the form of c annels, the ends of which are carried into the channel-like sides of the panel plate. The extreme end portions of the channels are cutaway leav. ing fillets 10, shown more clearly in Figure 5, which are adapted to project into the beads. The channels 9 are secured to the channel plates in any preferred manner, as for example, by spot welding.
In the construction shown in Figure 4, a ,bead is provided at one side only of the panels, the construction in other respects being slibstantially the same.
In addition, the beads lend addi-.
The panels are secured to the mold strugture in any manner, Well understood in thls art.
I claim:
A panel for concrete work comprising in comblnation a sheet metal plate having 0pposite edge portions thereof bent into channel-like form at least one of the web portions of the bent over edges having a lonmeeem gitudinally extending bead or rib member, 10
In testimony whereof I have hereunto 15 signed my name.
LESLIE H. GARLINGH O-USE.
