Another object, is to provide a; means whereby the: signal; maybe set by hand. in any one of the various positions required by law, depending on the direction of movement to lie-taken by the, driver of the car. which position will be automatically maintained even thoughthe operators hand is withdrawn. A third object is to provide a device of this character the signal arm of which is intended to show both in the day time and at night. and so constructed that any member apt to break may be easily and quickly replaced.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will. be exceedingly effective for the purposes which it is designed.
These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

In the operation of the signal as a Whole,
at the same time to permit of this taking place. From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of thedevice, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as donot form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A direction signal including a substantially horizontal sleeve adapted to be secured to a Windshield, a shaft slidably and turnablyv mounted in the sleeve, a handle on the shaft to the rear of the sleeve, angle bend on the shaft ahead of the sleeve, notches cut in the sleeve at that end thereof, a member on the corresponding end of the shaft for engagement with any of said notches, and "spring means acting on the shaft to hold said member in engagement with any of said notches at a time.
2. A direction signal including a substantially horizontal sleeve adapted to be secured to a windshield, a shaft slidably and turnably mounted in the sleeve, aha-ndle on a rightthe shaft to the rear of the sleeve, an integrally formed right-angle bend on'the shaft ahead of the sleeve, and a signal member 'secured onto the end of said bent portion and extending as a continuation thereof,
8. In a direction signal, an arm, a lamp mounted in the outer end thereof, and a hollow signal member, such member comprising a pair of spaced and grooved edge members connected together at their outer ends, a
pair of outwardly curved translucent panes held by the edge members, opposed metal members for holding the inner ends of said translucent members in place, and a disc screwed onto the outer end of the arm and to which the adjacent ends of'the paneholding members are removably secured.
