To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that we, WARD STONE Inn- LAND and l VILLIAM HENRY MEYER, citizens of the United States, and residents of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Controllers for Oscillating Washing-Machine Tubs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to flexible link devices for controlling or regulating the oscillating movements of pivotally sup-ported washing machine tubs, and has for its object the production of a means of this kind flexible in nature and which is so constructed as to permit freedom of movement of the controller parts and with minimum of wear and strain upon such parts. A further object of the invention is to provide flexible links having spring connection means so secured to the springs as to avoid any tendency to strains acting to break or impair the links.
Fig. I is a side elevation of a washing machine partly broken away to show our tub controlling means.
Fig. II is a horizontal section taken through a washing machine with our controlling means shown partly in plan and partly in section.
Fig. III is an elevation, partly in section, of one of the springs of the controlling means and the connections secured thereto, the spring being partly broken out.
Fig. IV is a top view of one of the spring connections.
Fig. V is a top view of the other spring connection.
In the drawings A designates the case of a washing machine within which is a suitable frame work B. C designates an oscillatory tub at the side of which are frames I) provided with pivot members E, only one of which is shown in the drawings. Each of the pivot members E is supported by the frame B, the means for supporting the pivot member at the side of the tub shown comprising a sleeve 1 secured to the frame B, and which is provided with laterally extended arms 2.

Pivot pins 3 are mounted in the arms 2 on the sleeve 1. These pivot pins receive sprlng connection members 4 which are adapted to rock on the pins 3 during the oscillation of the tub on the supports. 5 are spring connection members provided with apertures 6 which provide for the attachment of the members to lugs 7 carried by the frame I) on the tub C, these connection members 5 being spaced from the connection members i pivoted to the sleeve 1.
The connection members 4 and 5 are provided, respectively with screw threads 4 and 5. 8 are coiled springs interposed between the connection members 4. and 5 and into which the said connection members are screwed so that each connection member engages a number of the coils of the spring to which it is applied. The connection members are in this way effectually attached to the springs in a manner providing for positive attachment of the connection members to the springs without possibility of separation of the parts and without any strain being imposed upon the springs which would tend to impair their service and without liability of separation of the connection members from the springs.
The connection members 4 being pivoted to the sleeve or central support the controller members at each side of the axis of the tub are permitted to turn freely when the tub is oscillated as indicated by full and dotted lines Fig. I, and the flexibility of action thus afforded provides for an even strain at all times upon the controller members owing to the constant straight pulling action made possible by the swinging of the connection members 4 in response to oscillation of the tub.
We claim:
1. A washing machine comprising a stationary casing, supports projecting inwardly from opposite sides of said casing and provided with laterally extending arms, bearings formed in said supports, an oscillatory tub journaled in said bearings, and oscillation controlling means pivoted at their outer ends to the side walls of the tub and at their inner ends to said laterally extending arms.
