can-WASHING nacmiqn spelemcaoa of 'Letters raient, Patented July 25, ,21922.
ongniai appiicanon mea my 22,' i920,l serial No. 383,333. Divide@ mi this appiicaubaaieanay a2,
Be it known that I, WALTERH. PULson,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, countyo f `(look, and- State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful 1m rovements in Can -'Washin g Machines, of w ichl the following 31s a speci-A lication.'
My invention relates can washing machines, and more particularly to'means for feeding the cansl to be washed into said machine, the vobject of the invention being to provide a' simple and effectiveA arrangement of this character by means of which the cans to be washed may -be fed into the machine with great efficiency and rapidity.
Other objects will appear hereinafter: The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts' hereinafter described and claimed.
vThe invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specific-ation, and in l which,
-Fig. 1, is a longitudinal vertical section taken through the feed-in end of a caiiwashing machine .embodying the invention,
Fig. 2, a top plan .view corresponding with Fig. 1, i
Fig. 3, a vertical transverse section of the portion of the machine yshown in Figs.' 1 and 2, Aand able tank 5 lopen at the top, and adapted and4 Fig. 4, -a rear end view of the same. The preferred form of construction, las illustrated in the drawings, comprises a suitarranged to contain a considerable body of can-soaking or washing water. Arranged in the tank 5 is an endless chain conveyer 6 havingcan supporting and feeding fingers 7, 8 and 9 mounted thereon, said conveyer and fingers being so mounted as to cause said fingers to move downwardly adjacent one end of tank 5, as shown. An inclined can supporting chute 10 is arrangedat the i top of said end of tank 5 in position to deliver cans, such as ordinary ice-cream cans 11, thereto. An oscillatory shaft 12 is mounted transversely. under the chute 10' -adjacent the corresponding end of tank 5,
and said shaft -isprovided with two stop blades 13 and 14 arranged to project upwardly into thev lower fend of the chute 10, as indicated. The-shaft 12 carries a rocker to improvements in 1920. "Serial No; 388,834'. /1 l 17 of a bell crank lever mounted on the tank l5, as indicated. The other-arm 18 of said bell crank lever is set-in the .path of the projecting ends 19 of crossbars 20 on the lever 17u-18 will be rocked and then released' to cause corresponding rckingof the shaft v 12.*fjvTheparts are so balanced and arranged that when. thus rocked, they will maintain such position when the arm 18 is thus released.- A stop 21-is provided on link'16, and
also set in the path of the lprojecting' ends 19 of the crossbars 20, the arrangement being .such that immediately following the rocking of the-"shaft 12 above described, the stop 21 is engaged by the corresponding bar end 19 and the parts restored to original position, as will be readily understood.
n use, the cans are arranged on the chute 10, as indicated in dotted lines.l As each set of sup orting n rs 7, 8 and 9 pass downward y into the tank 5, the shaft 12- is oscillated to depress the stop blade 13 and elevate the stop blade 14. This operation conveyer G'and carryn the fingers 7, 8 and releases the lowermost can 11 and permits' the same to roll into the tank 5, resting on top of the corresponding downwardly feeding fingers. At the same time, the stop blade 141 is elevated to engage the next can 11 and `prevent feeding of it also. When the parts are re-set, as above indicated, said lneXt can'will be permitted to roll down into in my co-pending application Serial No.' 383,333 filed of even-date herewith, and of which the a division.
While I Vhave illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention 'into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing fromthe spirit of the invention. l, therefore, do not wish to'be limited to the present application is, in effect,
precise details of construction set'forth, but
desire to avail myself of suoli variations and 'modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. Apparatusof the class described com' prising a conveyor; an inclined support.
leading to said conveyor; an oscillating shaft mounted under said support adjacent said conveyor; two stops mounted on said shatat an angle to each other and operating within said support; a bell crank lever set in the path of said '.conveyor; and an operative connection between said bell crank lever and said shaft for oscillating the shaft, substantially as described. v
3. Apparatus of the class described comprising a conveyor; an inclined support leading to said conveyor; an oscillating shaft mounted under said support; (two stops on said shaft at an angle to each other and operating in said support; a
recaen@ rocker arm on said shaft; a bell'crank lever l having one arm set in the pagLh of said con.
veyor; a linkv onn'ectin the other arm of said bell crank with-sald rocker arn; and
end; two can stops arranged on said shaft at an angle to' each other -and operating in said support; a rocker arm on said shaft; a
.'bell crank lever mounted in operative'relaf tion with lsaid conveyer to be oscillated thereby; a link connecting said bell crank.
lever with said rocker arm; a stop on said link; and means on said conveyer engaging sald stopf to re-set said'shaft, substantially mas described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence ofl two subscribing witnesses.
