Application filed August 30, 1921.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE RUNYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Dearborn and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Comb Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends the provision of a device designed for cleaning hair combs or the like, by means of which line particles collected between the teeth of the comb, such as dandru, grease, dirt or the like can be quickly and easily removed.
The invention aims to provide a device o-f this character which is very simple in construction, so that it may be manufactured and sold at a very nominal cost, the device embodying threads arranged in spaced parallel relation across the open side of a frame like member, the threads being associated with the frame in a manner whereby they can be readily and quickly replaced by any one when t-he occasion requires.
rEhe nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the device forming the subject matter of the invention.
igure 2 is a side elevation.
Figure 3 is an end elevation.
Figure lis a sectional view taken on line 4 4 of Figure 1, the strands being omitted.
Figure 5 is a sectional view through the handle.
Figure 6 is a detail view of one end of the handle.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device forming the subject matter of the invention embodies a substantially U-shaped frame indicated at 10, while projecting from the free edge of the parallel end members 12 are outwardly extended lugs or fingers 13 about which the thread 14 is passed in a manner to provide a plurality of spaced Specilicaton of Letters Patent.

parallel strands which may be more or less closely associated as the occasion may require. One of the end walls 11 is provided with notches 13, these notches defining eX- tensions 1% about which the free terminals of the threads are tied as illustrated. The opposite end wall 11 is provided with spaced slot-s 15 which receive the be-ndable tongues 16 projecting from the adjacent end of a handle 18. After the tongues are passed through the slots they are bent against the end wall 11 to hold the handle iiXed relatively to the 'frame as will be readily understood. The handle is preferably of U- shaped formation in cross section, although it may vary in size and configuration without departing from the spirit of the invention. rThe device is very simple in construction and can be manufactured and sold at a very nominal cost, by use of the device, the comb can be quickly and easily cleaned without soiling the fingers.
IVhile it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What I claim is:
A comb cleaner comprising a substantially U-shaped frame, fingers projecting from the upper edge of the parallel end walls of said frame, one end wall having notches in its opposed side edges, a thread passed about said fingers in a manner to provide spaced parallel strands extended across the open end of the frame, with the terminals of said thread in said notches, the opposite end wall of the frame having parallel slots, a handle formed from a single piece of material, said handle being` of substantially U-shaped formation in cross section, bendable tongues projecting from the opposed sides of the handle and adapted to be passed through said slots and subsequently bent against the adjacent end wall for holding said handle and frame fixed relatively.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature.
