To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, TOM RUNNING, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Juneau, S. E., and Territory of Alaska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Seine-Operating Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a seine operating apparatus and has for its primary object the construction of an apparatus by means of which a seine may be hauled from the sea, and automatically folded in position to be again mechanically passed into the sea.

An object of the invention is the provision of simple mechanism for automatically folding the seine as it is removed from the water.

Another object of the invention is the provision of mechanism for operating the seine, automatic in its operation, having a manually controllable drive connection with the engine, of the boat upon which the apparatus is supported so as to operate the seine 3 at a plurality of angles with relation to the length of the boat. 7

With these and other objects in View the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Again referring to the drawings illustrating one manner in which the invention may be constructed the numeral 1 designates a platform fixed upon the boat 2. The boat 2 which is illustrated in a diagrammatic manner in the drawings, may be of any wellknown construction and including'an engine 3. Mounted upon the platform 1 is a track 1 upon which rides rollers 5 secured to the turn table 6. This turn table in practice may be turned by hand or by a connection with the engine 3. In this particular instance I have shown my apparatus constructed to be driven by the engine of the boat, and for this purpose I have shown a gear 7 loose on the engine shaft 8 and meshing with another gear 9 on a drive shaft 10. By adjusting the clutch mechanism 11, the clutch 12 which is keyed to shaft 8 may be thrown to a neutral position or into engagement with the gear 7 so that Specification of Letters Patent.

the shaft 10 may be stopped or rotated. The drive shaft 10 has a gear connection 13 with a driven shaft 14 mounted on the turn table and having a drive connection 15 with a pair of feed rollers 16 and a drive connection 17 with a pair of take up rollers 18. The rollers 16 are corrugated and the upper roller of each pair is mounted to gravitate into engagement with the lower roller so as to effectively engage and pull the seine. Adjacent end portions of the rollers are provided with grooves 19 for allowing the passage of the cork or floats and the weights of the seine.

As far as I have proceeded it will be seen that in a mechanical manner and power operated, the seine can be hauled from the sea, the turntable allowing the seine. to be cast into the sea at the necessary angle with relation to the boat.

My invention also provides means for automatically folding the seine as it is removed from the water, and in one of its forms consists as illustrated in the drawing of the frame 20 supporting the take up rollers. This frame 20 is pivotally mounted on a shaft 14 so that the rollers may be oscillated for folding the seine in a receiver 21. Rotatably supported upon the under surface of the turn table is a relatively large gear 22 meshing with a smaller gear 23 on the drive shaft 10. Connected to the gear 22 is a pin 24 connected to a link 25 which in turn is pivotally connected to the frame so as to give the required oscillatory movement to the frame. Attention is called to the fact that the drive connections and associated parts have such a relation that the seine will be fed past the take up rollers at the required speed to allow the seine to be properly folded in the receiver 21.

It is of course to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in other relations, and therefore I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.

What I claim is:

1. A seine operating device comprising a turntable, uprights thereon, a pair of rollers mounted in said uprights, a rocking frame carried by the platform, a pair of rollers carried by said frame, all of said rollers having grooves adjacent their ends for permitting the floats and sinkers on the seine to pass between the rollers, means for rofitting the rollers and means forrocking the frame. p
