PENCIL GRIP.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VAN QUINroN M m- DOCK, citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of F ranklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pencil Grips, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new and im proved pencil grip.

The main object of the invention is to provide a new and improved pencil grip that is especially designed to be used in connection with pencils of metal or Eversharp type so as to prevent the pencil from sl pping from the hand of the operator during lts manipulation.

A further object of the invention is to pro vide an improved grip that can be used in connection with pencils of conventional form and Whose use does not necessitate the changing of the construction or alteration of the pencil in any way.

Another object of the invention is to provide a grip of the above character that is simple in construction, strong and durable and which it is believed may be manufactured at a low cost.

Various other objects and advantages will become apparent during the continuance of the following description.

In the drawings Figure l is a view in elevation showing my invention in its preferred embodiment and as applied to a pencil of the Even sharp type.

Figure 2 is a view in longitudinal section of my invention, showing the pencil partly broken away, and in elevation.

Figure 3 is a view in perspective of one of the metal holders or bands used 1n connection with my invention.

Figure 4: is a view in perspective of the flexible body of the grip and the insert carried thereby.

Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, 10 and 11 designate the metal bands or holders used as a part of my invention. The bands or holders are designed to fit snugly on the body of the pencil 12 and are only very slightly larger in diameter than the outer diameter of the body of the pencil.

The opposed faces of rings or carriers 10 and 11 are cut away to provide circular soc rets 13 which when the rings or carriers are positioned on the pencil, are open to the adjacent outer surface of the pencil as clearly shown in Figure 2.

An elongated sleeve 14 preferably formed of leather or other flexible material is interposed between the rings or carriers 10 and 11 and its end portions fit the circular sockets 13 of the rings or carriers. However, the sockets are of greater width than the width of the material forming the sleeve 14, as shown in Figure 2, so that the second sleeve or insert may be accommodated such as will be presently described.

In order to form a more compact structure and at the same time prevent the sleeve 14 from becoming too loose with respect to the pencil and sliding too freely thereon, I provide a second sleeve or insert 15 that is formed of tape or other suitable and desirable material that fits snugly within the sleeve 1 1 and has its end portions resting within the sockets 13. The insert fits snugly about the outer surface of the pencil 12 and will prevent the grip from sliding too freely thereon.

From the above it will be observed that the grip may be quickly and easily associated with the pencil and that by reason of the snug fit provided by the insert 15 and the metal bands or carriers 10 and 11, it .will be held snugly thereon and will not slide too freely. During the manipulation of the pencil, the operators fingers grip the sleeve 14: so as to force the same more firmly into engagement with the pencil and it has been found that the pencil can be more securely held and more easily manipulated.

From the foregoing it is believed that the other advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily understood and therefore further detailed description is deemed unnecessary.

What is claimed is 1.
