Description

UNITED j "f HIRAM LEACH, OF GAMANGHE, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN P'LOW-SCRAPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. IQILIS, dated August 26, 1873; application tiled' July 9, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM LEAoILof the town of Camanche, in the county of Clinton and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Plow-Scraper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specication, in which- Figure l is a top View. Figffl is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the front part of the plow, showing the hinged joint.
My invention relates to an adjustable plowscraper; and consists in the arrangement of a hinged joint at the heel of the plow-point, by which joint an adjustable land-side is attached and operated, in combination with adj justable braces attached on the inside of the land-side and mold-board.
A isV the land-side, attached by the hinged joint C at the heel of the plow-point B, as shown in Figs. l and 2 ofthe drawings, so as to protect the joint from clogging and wearing by the action of the dirt and gravel. D D are adjustable braces attached to the inside of the land-side and mold-board E, as shown in Fig. 1. The beam F and handles H H are attached to the plow in any well-known'man ner.
The plow-scraper is designed to be used for removing dirt or snow.
In turnpiking roads, a few furrows are run with an ordinary plow, and the plow-scraper, adjusted at any required width, with the landside to the unplowed ground and the moldboard toward the center of the road, is run along the last furrow, moving the loose dirt the width of the plow toward the middle of the road.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent in a plow-scraper, is-
1. The arrangement of the hinged joint C at the heel of the plow-point B, in combination with the adjustable land-side A, substantially as described and shown.
2. The combination ot' the adjustable landl side A7 plow-point B, hinged joint C, braces D D, and mold-board E, all arranged substantially as described and shown.
Witnesses: HIRAM LEAGH.-
W. W. SANBORN, W. I. HAYWooD.
