T all whom t fmf/,y/ concern Be it known that I. WILLIAM M.' DAVID- soN, a citizen of the United States7 residing at St. Louis, lState of Missouri.y have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crushers and Pulverizers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in Crushers and pul- 10 verizers the peculiarities of which will be fully described and claimed hereinafter.
The main object of my invention is the provision of adjustable inset cutters forming extended wall surfaces of recesses in a curved horizontal wall the inner serrated face of which lies adjacent to rotary hammers of a crusher or pulverizer; second, of means detachably connected to said inset cutters for adj usting them from the outside; and
thirdly of reversible adjustable inset cutters in connection with cove recesses.
In the accompanying drawing on which like reference letters indicate corresponding parts, Fig. l represents a partial Asectional elevation on a vertical plane across the shaft of a machine exemplifying my invention; Fig. 2 a plan view of a slidably adjustable portion of said machine partly broken away on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 to show an independently adjustable inset piece forming a cutting edge and its detachable adjusting means; and Fig. 3 an inside face view of such cove recesses with adjustable cutting edges, and the sides of the casing in section.
The letter A designates a shaft carrying discs B or other means for mouting pivoted hammers C forming a rotor within casing walls D including` a hoppen E. On the inner face of said casing and opposite the ends of said hammers are formed a Vseries of recesses preferably consisting of elements provided with plane surfaces. such as a curved surface F that acts to deflect the material driven into the recesses by the hammers so that it passes inward over a radial surface G that forms a cutting edge by intersecting in an acute angle with the following surface H in the next adjacent recess. The deflecting surface F precedes and blends with the radial surface Gr. This surface H precedes the curved surface F in each recess. The intersection of the radial surface G and the next followingsurface H is provided with a slot extending outward adapted to receive an inset piece, preferably formed of a fiat bar of a width several times its thickness, and beveled on its side edges to form double reversible cutting edges cooperating with said hammers in the reduction of material. The top of each piece forms part of the radial surface R opposing said hammer and the inner beveled edge c0- incides with the surface H following the cutting edge. Between the beveled edges and preferably midway are located holes through the thin dimension of the bar in which fit the hook ends of threaded hook bolts I that extend outward through holes in the casing and have nuts or other means for fastening the bolts in place. The hook ends oii the bolts are located in holes J, open at their inner face and below or near the cutting edge of each serration. so that the bolts may be engaged with the bars and then slipped through the matching holes in the casing while the bars slide into the slots at the intersecting planes of the recesses. 'When the inner edge is worn off, the bolts may be loosened and the bars removed from the hook ends and reversed and replaced in the slot-s. The cutting edge can likewise be adjusted toward or away from the -hammer circle by slacking off the bolts so as to put a filler K behind the outer edge of the piece, and then tightening the bar against it by the nuts and bolts. The cutting edges may loe adjusted collectively by mounting a portion of the casing having recesses, on a slidable block L having adjusting screw M.
I claim:
1. In a grinding mill. a wall having a curved inner face provided with recesses therein. in combination with inset pieces7 each having an opening therein and reversible cutting edges adapted to form an eX- tension' of the recess walls, and adjusting means for said inset pieces, each having one end thereof engaging in said opening7 and the other end extending beyond said wall.
2. A machine of the character described comprising a rotor having a curved Wall Conedges, hook bolts engaging the holes in the centric with said rotor, the inner face of middle of said pieces and extending outside said wall having a casing, a series of recesses said Wall, and means to hold said bolts in 10 located adjacent to the operative circle of any adjusted position.
