EARL It. PERSON, OF LEOMINSTER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE VISCOLOID COMPANY, OF LEOMINSTER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OE MASSACHU- COMB.
Lerares.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it lrnown that I, EARL R. PERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leominster, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Comb, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that type of curved comb which is used to hold the hair in position all around the top of the head. These combs are used by children.
The principal object of this invention is to provide such a comb with a bow holder for the attachment of a bow and to provide this in such form that it will not add materially to the expense of the article and will not otherwise complicate it.
Further objects and advantages o-f the invention will appear hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. l is a plan of a comb constructed in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. l on an enlarged scale; and
if ig. 3 is a view showing the use of the comb in the hair.
The invention is shown as applied to a round comb Yl0 of the ordinary type which as usually constructed is provided jvith a single row of teeth from oneend to the other. in this case the teeth at the desired point, as for example at the exact center or top of the comb, are omitted'for a short space. Tnplace of them the sheet material of which the comb is made is left in place to provide a projection il. This partalres of the curved shape of the comb and extends preferably about half way to the points of the teeth from the back rib l2 of the comb which is continuous.
This projection, as stated, is part of the material from which the comb is cut and is integral with it. It is provided with a pair of perforations 13 of convenient size and shape. Between these perfor-ations it is embossed or bent outwardly at 14 to facilitate the passage of a ribbon 15 through these openings.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 13, 1,922.
Serial No. 464,924.
In the use of thevdevice, the ribbon is inserted through the two openings in the manner indicated in Fig. 2 and a bow is tied or the ribbon is arranged in any other desired manner on the top of the comb before it is applied to the hair or after. The comb itself is used in the ordinary way, neither the tongue 11 nor the ribbon interfering with its usual functions.
As sometimes employed there is a braid or hank of hair at the center of the head. The underside of the projection 1l bears on this and holds it.
Although I have illustrated and described only a single form of the invention, am aware of the fact that modifications can be made therein by any person skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention as expressed in the claims. Therefore, I do not wish to be limited to all the details of construction herein shown and described but what I do claim is i. As an article of manufacture, a curved comb adapted to be worn in the hair and having two sets of teeth spaced apart and means thereon in said space for the attachment of a bow of ribbon.
2. As an article of manufacture, a curved comb having at the center of its convex portion a space between its teeth, and a pair of openings in said space substantially in the plane of the adjacent teeth for the reception of a ribbon.
is an article of manufacture, a round comb having at the top thereof an integral projection from its back rib toward the points of the teeth provided with means for securing a bow of ribbon thereto.
4. As an article of manufacture, a curved comb having at the top thereof a space without teeth, and an integral projection exten ding part way along said space and provided with two perforations, the material between said perforations being bent out of the plane of said tongue on the convex side.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
EARL R. PERSON.
