MaQ/ Q/ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH C. BECKER, OF OAKV'ILLE, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO CHASE COM- PANIES, INC., 01? WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION.
INSULATING COUPLING UNIT FOR PULL-SOCKET CHAINS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Anonrrr C. Rnonnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cakville, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Insulating Coupling Units for Pull-Socket Chains; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in
Fig. 1, a view in side elevation showing the insertion of my improved insulating coupling unit in a pull-socket chain.
Fig. 2, a view thereof in front elevation.
Fig. 3, a detached view in elevation of the insulating member of the unit.
Fig. 4:, an edge view thereof.
Fig. 5, a detached view of one of the two eye-members or clips.
Fig. 6, a plan View thereof.
My invention relates to an improved insulating coupling-unit for pull-socket chains, the object being to provide simple and convenient means whereby the length of pullsocket chains may be increased as is often necessary when used in conjunction with ceiling-fixtures and whereby, also, the users of such chains when located within reach from bath-tubs are protected against shocks from currents running through the chain to the hand.
lVith these ends in View my invention consists in an insulating coupling unit for pull-socket chains, the said unit consisting of an intermediate member of insulating material and two clips respectively attached to the opposite ends of the said insulating memher and adapted to be clasped upon the adjacent ends of a standard pull-chain. My invention further consists in an insulating coupling-unit having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In carrying out my invention as herein Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J 119 13, 1922 Application filed August 18, 1920.
Serial No. 404,363.
shown, I employ an intermediate member consisting of an oblong coupling-block 2 of any insulating material such as hard rubber or fibre and formed near its ends with transverse perforations 3 respectively receiving the hooked inner ends of wire clips 5, each having its outer end bent to form an eye 6 bent inward at a right-angle to the axis of the clip, these eyes being adapted to be clasped over the end balls 7 of the adjacent ends of twosections of a standard pullsocket ball-chain. The said block 2 and clips 5 as thus constructed and combined form a coupling unit adapted to be readily inserted into a given pull-chain for increasing the length thereof or for rendering it safer to use, or applied to one end of a pull-chain for the attachment to it of another section of chain in case it is desired to considerably increase its length as in the case of pullchains depending from ceiling-fixtures. My improvement when inserted into pull-chains within reach from bath-tubs, is a source of protection since it prevents the possibility of a shock from a current running through the chain to the hand of a person in the tub.
I claim:
An insulating coupling-unit for pullsocket ball-chains, consisting of an intermediate insulating member and two wire clips formed at their adjacent ends with hooks for engagement with the respective ends of the said. member and. at their outer ends with eyes for the reception of the end balls of pull-socket ball-chains, the bodyportions of the said clips being parallel with the longitudinal axis of the said insulating member, and the hook and eye portions thereof extending at a right angle to the said axis.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrib ing witnesses.
ADOLPI-I C. BECKER, WVitnesses:
JOHN S. NEAeLn, JAMrs TIFFANY.
