nnAsEn-cLn-Annm MACHINE.
Application filed July 5,
JCleaning Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in eraser cleaning machines.
The object of my invention is to provide a machine of novel construction by which erasers may be quickly and thoroughly cleaned of chalk dust.
A further object of my invention is to provide an eraser cleaning machine which is simple in construction, which is cheap to manufacture, which is durable and not liable to get out of order, which may be operated by an inexperienced person, and which may be arranged to discharge the dust which has been removed from the erasers into a chimney, sewer, bag or other receptacle.
My invention provides further an eraser cleaning machine which may be readily cleaned and which has a large capacity for the work for which it is designed.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention,
Fig. 1 is a view partly in vertical section on the line 1-1 of *ig. 3, and partly in side elevation shown attached to and arranged to discharge into a chimney.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of my improved machine shown attached to a chimney and disclosing an eraser mounted on the brush.
Fig. 3 1s a. top view of the machine.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 44 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is an inverted perspective view of the brush.
1 designates a casing which may be of any suitable form and which has a discharge spout or outlet for air 2, which is adapted to be mounted in a hole 3 provided therefor in the side of a chimney 4, or which maybe arranged to discharge into a sewer, bag, or other receptacle, not shown.
The spout 2 is preferably provided with a peripheral flange 5, which is adapted to be secured against the outer side of the chimney 4 by any suitable securing devices, such 1 as screws 6.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patgnted lwgg y 16" 192,2,
1919. Serial No. 308,850.
The casingl is provided, preferably,- in its upper side, with an inlet for air 7. The upper side of the casing is provided with an upstanding flange, 8, preferably rectangular, and which encircles the inlet 7. I
I provide brushing means so disposed that erasers may be rubbed against it and the dust removed from the erasers dropped by gravity into the inlet 7. Such erasing means comprises, in the form shown in the drawing, a brush consisting ofa perforate frame 9 having vertical passages 10 therethrough,
1 and bristles 11 extending upwardly from the frame 9. The frame 9 is mounted transversely and horizontally across the inlet 7 within the flange 8 between the walls of which it is removably fitted.
The under side of the frame 9 is preferably, provided with downwardly extending feet 12 which rest upon the top of the easing 1.
The bristles 11 extend above the rectangular flange 8, so that the chalk removing surface 18 of an ordinary eraser 14 may be rubbed across and against the upper ends of the bristles ll.
I provide means for drawing air through the passages 10 and the inlet 7 into the easing 1 and fordischarging the air and dust thus drawn through the outlet or discharge spout 2 into the chimney 4. v
Such air drawing and discharging means comprises preferably a rotary fan consisting of radial blades 15 mounted in the usual manner on a central hub 16, which is disposed in the casing 1 below the inlet 7 and which is secured to and rotatable with a vertical shaft 17 which extends through and is rotatably mounted inthe lower side of the casing 1, and which may be rotated by any suitable means. In the drawing, the shaft 17 is shown as the extension of anarmature shaft of an electric motor, the body 18 of which is secured by screws 19 to the under side of the casing 1.
In the operation of my invention, the motor 18 is operated, thus revolving the shaft 17 and the hub 16 and blades 15, thereby drawing air downwardly through the brush and inlet 7 into the casing 1, from which the blades 15 discharge the air and chalk dust carried with the air by centrifugal force into the chimney 4 through the outlet 2.
By rubbing the eraser 14 upon the upper ends of the bristles 11, the chalk dust is removed from the erasing surface 13 and is inlet and an outlet for air and provided with a flange encircling said inlet, a brush comprising a perforate 1111116 and bristles mounted in the frame, the frame being removably seated in said flange across said inlet and the bristles projecting outwardly beyond the outer edge of said flange, and means for drawing air through said brush and inlet and discharging the air through said outlet, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I'have signed my name to this specification.
