CHICK FEEDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. McCon- LoUeH, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Webster City, Hamilton County, Iowa, have invented a new and useful Chick Feeder, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide an improved construction for a device for supplying dry feed to chicks and the like.

A. further object of this invention is to provide an improved chick feeder which is simple and durable and capable of being constructed economically as to material and labor.

My invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of elements hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved device. Figure 2 is a cross-section on an enlarged scale.

In the construction of the device as shown the numerals 10, 11 designate end walls rectangular in shape and each provided with inturned flanges 12 at its side margins arranged vertically in planes at right angles to the planes of said walls. A single sheet of metal is bent and shaped to form a bottom 13, low side walls 14, 15 rising perpendicularly from side margins of said bottom, and ledges 16, 17 extending inwardly and upwardly from upper margins of said side walls and spaced above and inclined relative to said bottom.

The ledges 16, 17 are formed with integral upturned flanges 18, 19 respectively at their inner margins and substantially at right angles thereto. Inclined hopper walls 20,21 are provided and are fixed at their lower margins to the flanges 18, 19 respectively and ex tend upwardly, and outwardly relative to the median line of the device, substantially at right angles to the ledges 16, 17, and extend to the vertical plane of the side walls 14, 15, terminating in outturned horizontal flanges 22, 23 projecting across said vertical planes. The bottom 13, side walls 14, 15, ledges 16, 17 and hopper walls 20., 21 are coextensive in length, and the end walls 10, 11 are fixed to end margins thereof, the flanges 12 of said end walls overlapping end portions of said side walls and extending beneath and supporting at their ends the horizontal flanges 22, 23 of said hopper walls.

The ledges 16, 17 and hopper walls 20, 21 are suitably spaced apart at their inner margins and the space between them may be divided by a longitudinally extending partition or deflector 24 resting on and secured to the bottom 13. The deflector 24 preferably has sloping sides and may well be formed of a sheet of metal bent to V shape in crosssection and flanged for securing it to said bottom. The partition or deflector 24 does not extend the entire height of the device but does extend above the horizontal plane of the upper margins of the ledges 1.6, 17

Each of the ledges 16, 17 is formed with a plurality of spaced feeding apertures 25 and the height of the side walls 14, 15 and width and inclination of said ledges are such that chickens or other small fowls may readily reach said apertures when standing on a support on which the bottom 13 rests.

A cover 26 is formed of a rectangular sheet of metal of greater width than the bottom and end walls and is formed at its side niargins with hooked or recurved flanges 27, 28 adapted to engage, for longitudinal sliding movement, the horizontal flanges 22, 23 of the hopper walls.

If desired one or more transverse partitions 29 may be mounted in the device he tween and secured to the side and hopper walls, to separate different kinds of feed which may be used.

Particular attention is called to the method of forming the bottom, low side walls and ledges from a single sheet of material, and for mounting the hopper walls relative to said ledges.

The device so formed is simple of manufacture, economical in the use of material, and is exceedingly convenient for the purpose for which it is designed.

I claim as my invention- 1. A poultry feeder, comprising a bottom,

vertical side walls rising therefrom, ledges extending inwardly and upwardly from said side walls, said ledges being formed with up turned flanges at their inner margins, and formed with feeding apertures, hopper walls fixed to and extending upwardly and outwardly from the flanges of said ledges, and end walls mounted against end portions of said bottom, side walls, ledges and hopper walls.
