To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK T. HARLAN,

a citizen of the United States, residing at The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and instructive wheeled toy that shall be in the form of a miniature amusement-wheel carrying swinging-seats in which dolls or other articles may be carried while the toy amusement-wheel is rotated during the forward or backward movement 1 of the toy upon the floor, walk, orother fixed support.

The numeral 1 designates a pair of supporting-wheels, which are mounted upon an axle 2 that revolves in bearings 3 in the lower part of opposite platform-supporting V brackets 4.

Any suitable material,such as wood, tin, aluminum, or other metal, may be'used in manufacturing my invention.

A horizontal platform 5 is fixed upon the upper portions of said brackets 4, and from this platform rise two opposite vertical amusement-wheel supporting standards 6,

carrying bearings 7 in which the horizontal shaft 8 of the seat-carrying wheel is mounted to revolve.

Said supportingwheels 1 are shown in the form of sheet-metal disks, with tires or.

treads 9 made by turning a bead or flange-on the margins of said wheels; but it should be understood that instead of the metallic diskwheels herein shown I may use any common or well-known spoked-wheels that are at present in use as supporting-wheels for toys or wagons. 7

One or both of said supporting-wheels 1 should, of course, be fixed on said axle 2, so

that the latter will be positively driven as said wheels roll upon the floor or walk.

A serles of combined braces and guards 1O also rise from said platform 5, and have their upper portions curved inwardly and soldered or otherwise attached to the upper portions of'the said standards 6, so that the latter will be braced and the seat-carryingwheel will be protected from breakage or damage when the toy is accidentally tipped over and allowed to fall upon a hard surface. i

Said'combined braces and guardslO are arranged to project on all sides beyond the seat-carrying wheel, which will'now be described in detail. i

on the said wheel-shaft 8 and hanging cars or seats 14: have their vertical end-walls piv otally suspended in said space between said opposite disks or wheels.

\ Hereinafter I shall use the term swinging cars when referring to the said members 14, as they swing loosely upon the end-pintles of U-shaped reversible passenger guards 15.

Said guards 15 have their pintles 16 pivotally mounted in bearings in the outer ends of the said radial arms 12, and are to be thrown back against or upon the seat-backs 17, to permit the entrance or exit of the passengers or dolls 18, Fig. 1.

Afterthe passengersare safely seated upon the benches or seat-boards 19, in .said swinging cars 14:, the said pivoted or hinged guards 15 are thrown forward, over the heads and to a position in front of the passengers, where said guards rest upon inclined seats 20 formed upon the said vertical end-walls of the said swinging cars 14. e

and thereby causes-the car-carryingmembers together with all of the said cars 14, to r0- tate, as the toy is pulled or pushed on the floor, walk, or upon the ground.

Said belt passes through holes or openings 25formed in the said platform 5.

A tongue or handle 26 is secured by bolts or screws 27 to cross-bars 28 that have their ends fastened to the said brackets l, below said platform 5.

Screws 29 are used to fasten said cross bars in position T he operation.

The operation and use of my invention will be entirely cleart'rom the above description but it may be well to state that the construction is such that the supporting-wheels 1 are not only adapted to support the weight of the entire toy, but that they are also drivewheels, or traction-wheels, inasmuch as they impart a rotary movement to the movable parts of the amusement-wheel carried by the said platform 5.

The said swinging-cars is? always maintain an upright position upon the toy, owing to radialarms; swinging cars mounted to swing loosely upon the end pintles of the said U- shaped passenger guards; a tongue or handle for pulling or pushing the toy along a supporting surface; means for driving said amusement-wheel from one of said ground wheels when the toy is pulled or pushed upon a supporting surface; and a seriesof combined guards and braces rising from said platform and arranged to extend on all sides beyond the movable parts of said amusementwheel to protect the movable parts from injury when the toy is accidentally tipped over or allowed to fall in any direction upon a hard object. a
