FRANK VAVBA, OFNEW YORK, N. Y.
TRAY.
Application filed July 19,
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK VAvRA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Tray, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in trays and the like, and it has for one of its primary objects to provide means by which shells and similar` articles having no commercial value may be utilized.
It is a further object of the invention to provide means whereby a shell or other article of similar contour may be lirmly supported with respect to a suitable support, such, for example, as a table, wall, or the like.
It is a further object of the invention to so construct the supporting means for the shell that it may bereadily removable in order that the shell may be cleaned.
With the above and other objects in view, reference `is had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a top plan view of a shell showing the method of attachment to and support thereof-to a wall;
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of a shell provided with means to stabilize the same with respect to a iiat support, such, for example, as a table;
Fig. 4 is a view in elevation of that form of the invention shown in Fig. 3, and
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of a modified form of the invention.
Referring more particularly to the draw ings, the reference character 10 designates a shell of any desired type, and when said shell is to be supported from a wall or similar support, a metal bracket, such as indicated by the reference character 11, is employed. rIhis metal bracket comprises a vertical portion 12 and a horizontal portion 13, and said bracket is secured to a wall or the like by means of a driven-head fastener 14. The upper edge of the vertical portion 12 of the bracket is curved or rounded as Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 4, 1922.
1921. Serial No. 485,909.
indicated by the reference character 15 and said curved portion is adapted to receive the thickest edge portion of the shell indicated by the reference character 16, the outer curved portion of the shell resting upon the horizontal portion 13 or" the bracket 11 as indicated at 17. By this construction it is apparent that the shell may be supported in a true horizontal plane, and that owing to its dished formation provides a suitable receptacle for various articles, and especially adaptable for use as a container for toilet articles.
When the device is to be used upon a flat support, such, for example, as a table, the' ence character 24. By this construction, it
will be apparent that when the feet 20 engage the table or similar support, thevshell is prevented from accidental displacement or rocking motion relative to said support.
In Fig. 5 is shown a combination bracket by means of which the shell may be supported either from a wall or upon a flat surface. In this view of the invention, the members shown and described in Figs. 1 and 2 are provided with two pivoted feet 30 secured to the horizontal portion 13 of the bracket 11 by a screw or the like 31.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides means which when used in connection with shells and similar articles of practically no commercial value renders these articles capable of use as receptacles for various devices such as toilet articles and the like, and, at the same time,`the invention provides a cheap and economical means by which this idea may be carried out.
I claim- 1. A device of the character described comprising in combination with a shell, a bracket adapted to support the shell, said bracket comprising a substantially rightbracket comprising a substantially rightangular member adapted to be removably angular member adapted to `be removably engaoed with the edge of said shell, as and engaged with the edge of said shell, and 10 for tlie purpose set forth. means for rigidly securinv said bracket to a 5 2. A device of the character described suitable support, as and br the purpose set com risin in combination with a shell, a forth.
brac et a apted to support the shell, said FRANK V-AVRA.
