To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosnrH CHooHoL, a citizen of Poland, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Velocipedes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in velocipedes and has particular reference to a velocipede wherein the pedal mechanism supported on a Wheel bearing frame has a toy figure, such as a horse or other animal mounted on the frame and overlying the pedal mechanism with the pedals disposed in a position approximating the straps of a riding saddle.
A further object of the invention is to embody in a velocipede, a toy figure overlying the pedal mechanism of the velocipede and having steering handles arranged adjacent the head of the toy figure for steering the guide wheel of the velocipede.
. IVith the above general objects in View and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and. claimed.

Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing there is illustrated a velocipede embodying a platform 1 having bracket bearings 2 adjacent the rear end thereof for supporting a rear axle 3 upon which the ground wheels 4: are secured. The forward end of the platform 1 is supported by a steering wheel 5 journaled in the forks 6 of a rod '7 working through bearing boxes 8 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the upper end of the steering rod being provided with spaced handle bars 9.

pede embodies depending angle bracket arms 10 carried by the platform 1 and having iournaled therein a shaft 11 with a gear 12 fixed thereto and communicating with a gear 13 upon the rear axle 3 through the medium of a sprocket chain 1 1.
A frame embodying vertical side bars 15 is mounted upon the upper face of the platform 1 and has a crank shaft 16 journaled in the upper ends thereof, pedals 17 being of thespace occupied by the usual strips of a harness set while the handle bars 9 enclose the head or neck of the toy figure and are positioned at the point approximating the guiding reins. To facilitate a child mounting the toy figure 21, side steps 22 project laterally of the side bars 15 of the superframe and are positioned entirely out of the way of movement of the pedals 17.
From the above general description it will be seen that a child mounted upon the figure 21 operates the pedal mechanism by rotating the crank shaft 16, motion of the crank shaft being communicated to the shaft 11 by the sprocket and chain connections 18, 19 and 20 while rotary motion of the shaft 11 is communicated to the rear axle 3 through. the medium of the sprocket and chain mechanism 12, 13 and 14. The velocipede may be easily steered by the front wheel 5 and the handle bars 9 of the steering rod 7, the speed of movement being controlled by the pedal mechanism. 1
lVhile there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention it is nevertheless to be understood that minor chan es may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope thereof.
lVhat is claimed as new is 1. In a velocipede of the type described, a platform, rear supporting wheels and a forward steering wheel disposed beneath the platform, a frame supported on the platform and extending perpendicularly thereof, a crank shaft j ournaled in the upper end of the frame, a shaft journaled beneath the platform alined with said crank shaft, sprocket and chain connections between the crank shaft, the lower shaft and the rear axle, a toy figure overlying the said crank shaft supporting frame, and means associated with said frame to facilitate the mounting of said toy figure.
2.. In a velocipede of the type described, a platform, rear supporting wheels and a forward steering wheel disposed beneath the platform, a frame supported on the platform and extending perpendicularly thereof, a crank shaft journaled in the upper end of the frame, a shaft journaled beneath the platform alined with said crank shaft, sprocket and chain connections between the crank shaft, the lower shaft and the rear' axle, a toy figure overlying the said crank shaft supporting frame, and means associated with said frame to facilitate the mounting of said-toy figure, said means comprising integral step members projecting laterally from opposite sides of the said crank shaft supporting frame.
3. In a velocipede of the type described, a platform, rear supporting wheels and a forward steering Wheel disposed beneath the platform, a frame supported on the platform and extending perpendicularly thereof, side steps carried by said frame, a crank shaft journaled in the upper end of the frame, a shaft journaledbeneath the platform alined' with said crank shaft, and sprocket and chain connections between the crank shaft, the lower shaft and the rear axle.
