The Adiagrammatic view shown in Figa consists of a fuel oil heater 30 connected to a boiler 31 by a conduit system 32 whereby theV liquid fuel is conducted to a burner 33 which is of the well known and usual construction. A discharge pipe 34; which connects the fuel oil heater with the casing 5 of the valve, and a suction pipe 35 which connects a fuel oil tank 36 with said casing constitutes a part of the system having al pump designated 3T and the usual engine 38 whereby the liquid fuel is adapted to be pumped through the fuel. oil heater and to the burner asis readily understood.
Assuming now that the reversible suction valve is insta led in the fuel supply system as shown r`in Fig. 2i so that it will work automatically, if one Yof the pipes in the supply system should. break and the fuel becomes ignited, the fusible link would. melt and thereby allow the steam under pressure to enter the steam cylinder and actuate the stem andreverse the valve from the full Vline to the dotted line position as shown in Fig. 1. |This operation would cause thc pump 37 to withdraw the liquid fuel from the oil heater 8O into the casing and permit the same to pass through the passage 2l into the port 10 and then through the ports ll, 15, to the' pipe 35 andv back again into the fuel oil tank. In this manner, it will be readily understood that as the liquid fuel is withdrawn from the system and backinto the fuel oil tank, the lire will go out from lack of fuel. `When the repairs have been made to the system, the valv-e may be reversed and of course fuel again pumped to the Vheater and conducted to the burners. In cases also where the suction pipe should become stopped up or clogged up with dirt for instance the reversing action of the valve would also force the obstruction out and the pump started again as before. I
