Be it known that we, THnoDonn B. HERTH and Enwm W. Hnnrn, both citizens of the United States of America, and residents of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and Stateoi Ohio, have invented acertain new and useful Improvement in Calendar Attachments for Timepiece and the like, of whichthe following is a specification.
This invention relates to a monthly-calendar utility and novelty device adapted to be removably-attached in place on the back of a watch, or on the most convenient portion of other similar apparel of personal use or wear, or to be used easel-fashion on a desk or table, or on a mantel or shelf, or at the lower end of a watch fob or chain, as the case or whim may be; and its object is to provide such a device with simple and very, convenient means to indicate the month, the numerical day ofthe month and the name ofthe day of the week, such means being manually advanced from day to day by the user of the device, butnot by driving-connection with the timepiece "or other device in connection with which our calendar is used.
The invention consists of a combination of day, week and month display-disks suitably mounted on a central spindle or axis so that theymay be actuated independent ofeach othe'r tomake the combined display or indication for each day as the days pass by, and adding to such combination a maindisk or'back-plate to which said rotatable disks are connected by the said spindle and which has an opening or sighttherein for the actual. viewing-display in common of said day, week and month data, an'd which back-plate has, also, three radially-extend ing hook-arms and with detachable, as well as adjustable claw orclamp extensions whose outer hook or claw ends are adapted to engage the periphery of the watch-case for detachable, securing-connection therewith.

This peculiarly constructed opening is intended for a sight through which to view the calendar numbers and other data to indicate the day of the month, the name of the day and that of the month, all closely associated or clustered and easily read by the carrier or user of. the
watch, at any time, either on his personjon when off of: it, as the case may be, or when the device is used easel-fashion, or as a of said disk 19 and the last one of the three,
designated 21 that lies still farther nextin turn back of the said disk 20, all the disks beingconcentrically mounted on a central spindle or axis 22 that extends through the main-disk 12, which latter does not turn, and thence through the successive rotatable disks 19, 20 and 21, suitable washers 28 being in serted on said spindle between the disks '19 and 20'and between the disks 20 and 21, or, in otherwords, the said washers are placed at either side the orificed or pierced, center of thedisk 20s to reduce'friction'between the disks and to facilitate their rotatableadjustment, without their draging on each other, when desired to set dates. 4
The disk 19 is the one that has the names of the twelvemonths each printed in a given space on its outer face near its periphery, as best shown, in Fig.7 3, andas more specifically' described hereinafter, such names of the months appearing successively 1n the narrow part 18 01 the arc-shaped viewingsight of the main-disk 12, and su1tably-- spaced pilot-arms or "short projections 23 extending radially and equidistant apart along the periphery of said'month mdicatordisk 19, for use as a rotatably propelling or adjusting means for said disk .19 in bringing the desired name of the month into view in said sight or opening 18. V r The said month indicator-disk 19 llQSClb rectlyback of the main-disk 12, but a thin ring or partition-wall 2 1 is provlded that is set or spaced the thickness of the disk 19 away from and concentric with the maindisk 12, and, the said disk 19 being of the same diameter as that of the inner edgeof said ring 24, its pilot-arms 23 extend to the peripheral-edge of said main-disk 12, the edge of the latter being cut away at25, for
a distance coincident with the space that lies between the radial arms 13 at the lower part of the main-disk, as best seen in Fig. 1,
to expose or bare one or more of said pilot arms for convenience in pressing against them withthethumb or a finger in "turning the-month indicator-disk 19 into the desired month indicating-view in said narrow, portween the main-disk: and the extended-ring 2 1, but with still enough friction to prevent the disk 19 turning accidentally on the spindle away from its set-date indicator-position.
The said ring is spaced from the maindisk 12 by means of a strip of metal 26 that is the shape of and lies between a semicircular extension 21 of the main-disk, adjacent the date viewing- sight 17, 18, and a similar or correspondingparallel extension 28 of the said ring. 1 A hand pinion or small spur-wheel 29 is mounted on a transverse pin or-shortbolt 3O centrally set in the said registering semicircularextensions 27 and 28 and their intervening metal strip 26. Said hand pinion 29 is provided for convenient engagement with the toothed inset edge 80 of the week-day indicator-disk 20, such toothed edgeBOi being best seen in Figs. 4 and 5 and provided for the propulsion ofthe disk 20 on the central axis 22 by meansof said spur-wheel 29 to set up the desired dayof the week that appears on the respective radial arms 31, in due turn in the broad part of the sight 17 of the main-disk 12, the viewing-face of "said disk 20 being best seen in Fig.4, de-
tached from the rest oi the device.
The hindmost disk 21 has a serrated edge 32 whereby it is propelled or rotated on the i weekdays in the sight 17 so asto complete the indication each day as the days progress.
Ordinarily, with a watch that is carried on the person, and which is wound every day at a set time, say at the time of rising in the'morning, the calendar part of the at-, 'tachmentisset for that day at once and the user can readily see the date as well as the time-of day whenever he views his timepiece during the day, or, during the evening before retiring. 7 Thus accuracy can be depended on from day to day and the device herein will make a very useful and attractive appendage.
'- The week-day disk 20 has an extra thick- -ness 33 beyond the toothed inset edge 30,
as best seen in Fig. 5, such thickness corresponding to that of the 'ring24, and the front face of said extra thickness 33'lies adjacent'to but not touching the back of the month indicator-disk 19, so" as to aline the said toothed edge 30* with that of the spurwheel 29 and thus makes the device just that much more compact and reduces the thickness of the entire device to a minimum 'for convenience and comfort in wearing it on the watch in ones pocket. v
In the preparation of the face of the month indicator-disk 19 we divide up each space that lies between the pairs of radial pilot-arms 28 -into iour equal parts, the two central ones being utilized for twosucceeding months names and the two end ones being left blank, as best seen in Fig; 3. The
prime object of this feature is to be able to make an indication of one of the months in.
radial arms 13 of the main-disk 12 for footrests and the upper radial arm 13 with its extension 11 as a back-stop or prop, the said arm 13 being bent at a suitable inclination rearwardly and adapted to be adjusted longitudinally to suit the degree of inclination desired. This use of the device is very attractive as an ornament of utility on the desk, table, shelf or-mantel, as desired,
In the fob form of device seen in Fig. 9 we omit the claw and radial arms from the main-disk 12 and suitably secure the remainder thereof on the face of the fore pendent part 34L of the ordinary watch-fob. This feature is both useful and ornamental and illustrates the adaptability of the device to many uses besides that of in connection with a watchor similar pocket timepiece.
1. A calendar-attachment for watches and the like comprising a main-disk having a combined date-viewing sight-opening there in, radial arms extending from the periphcry 01 said main-disk, longitudinally-extensible clamping claw-arms mounted at the outer ends of the said radial arms, a central spindle or axis, an independent month-indicator rotary-disk mounted on said spindle back of said main-disk and having short radial pilot-arms extending from its periph ery, an independent week-day indicator-disk mounted on said spindle back of said month indicator-disk and having spaced radial arms on which the respective names of the days are displayed, a toothed edge along the periphery of the said week-day disk, a spur-wl1eel provided on a lateral extension of the main-disk and adapted to operatively engage the said inset toothed edge on the week-day disk, and an independent day indicator-disk mounted on the said spindle back of said week-day indicator-disk and having a notched or serrated edgeto facilt tate its rotation in bringing up the desired numeral to indicate that of the day of the month to appear for reading in the broad part of the viewing-sight alongside the name of the day and above the nameof the month.
2. A calendar-attachment tor watches and the like comprising a main-disk having radial arms whose inner ends are bent or flanged inwardly, extension-arms having claw or hook-shape outer ends adapted to engage the rim or edge of the watch, a series of transverse slots in each of said extensionarms adapted for adjustable engagement by the said inwardly-disposed flanges of the said radial arms, a central spindle or axis projecting from said main-disk inwardly toward the watch, anopen viewing-sight in the main-disk, a spur-wheel mounted to turn on a lateralextension of said main-disk, a series of independent month, week and day indicator-disks rotatably mounted on said spindle in rotation back' of the main disk and one of said disks being provided with inset teeth along itsmain periphery to adapt I it to engagement by the said spur-wheel for hand-rotation in indicating the week-days, spacing-washers at both sides of said weekdisk, and a spacing-ring on the back of the main disk adapted to house or accommodate a part of the thickness of the said disk that has the said inset peripheral teeth, substantially asset forth.
