"WINDOW? PROVEZSION-BOX.
1 Specification of Letters Eatent. Eg -atggntgfil D943. 2?, it; 1?
(application filed April 28, 1929. Serial No. 376,814.
To all whom may concern Be i lrnown that T, MAX EACHLIN, a citizen oi Russia, and a resident of New York, in the county of Kings and State of. New York, have invented certain n w and useful Improvements in lVin-dow Provision-Boxes, of which .he follow' is a specification.
The present invention relates to provisiren-safes, and m re pa sicularly to that type which is adapted to be attached to a window frame or the outer surface of a wall adjacent a window frame.
Gne of the objects of the invention is to provide a provisionsate of this character which is adapted to be mounted adjacent a window opening in such a manner as not to interfere with the admission of light and air into the room.
Another object of the invention is to produce a provision-sate which is simple in construction, etticient in operation, and which is adapted for manufacture on a commercial scale, or in other words one which is not so difficult to make as to be beyond the reasonable cost 01" such an article. v
With these other objects in view, which will more fully appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the
same consists in the combination, arrang ment and construction of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being; understood that many changes may be made in. the size and pro portion of the several. parts and details of construction within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention,
One of the many possible embodiments of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section taken through a portion of a window frame with the provision-safe, forming the subject matter of the present application, mounted thereon; Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section taken throughthe provisionsafe, on a larger scale; and Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig; 2.
In the drawings the numeral 10 indicates a window frame of any suitable construction, in which the sashes 11 are slidably arranged in the, usual manner. The sill 12 of the frame rests on the building wall 13, and
to the said sill is fastened the provisionsatel i, in a manner hereinafter to be described.
The provision-sate is made in theiorm. of
a box-like receptacle, the size of whichvaries according to the requirements, 1ts material.
being selected so as to. give. a light construction. The receptacle co'mprisesan' outer box 15 and an inner box 16, which are suitably spaced, thereby providing a double-walled construction. The outerbox consists of a trontwalll'Z, a rear wall 18, sides 19, 19, and a bottom piece 20. in a similar manner consists theinner box of a front wall 21, a rear wall 22, sides 28, 28, and a bottom piece 24. The corresponding elements of the two boxes are disposed in parallel relation and are spaced one from another, the upper edges of the front and rear walls and sides or? the two boxes beingconnected by a frame:
25, whereby a closed space is formed between the two boxes. The upper edges of the sides of the two boxes slant from their front walls toward their rear walls, as clearly appears from l igs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the top or lid 26 of thesafe slop ins; correspondingly. The lid is pivoted at 27 to the upper or free edge of the rear wall 18 of the outer box, and is provided with a downwardly projecting flange. 28 at it opposite longitudinal, edge and-with similar flanges 29 along its transverse edges. These fiangesoverhang the corresponding sides of the outer box. The hinged edge of the lid projects beyond the rear wall 18 ot' the outer box, abutting against the said rear wall when the lid is swung into open position. On the lid oi the safe is built a hollow upwardly projecting structure 30, in alinement with which are formed apertures 31 in the lid, said hollow structure being provided inits-sides with apertures 32. The apertures 31 and 32 permit or" a contlnuous ventllatlon of the provlsion-sate.
' Holes 33 and 3 .1. are formed in the bottom piece 20 and the sides 19, respectively, oi":-
the outer box, thereby permitting a circulation of air throu 'h the space between the two boxes.
A. handle 35, in the form of a knobfis attached to the structure 30, to facilitate the opening and closing of the lid. of the safe.
To the "front wall 1'? of the outer box are attached brackets 36, by which the safe is against the rear wal which extends upward a vertical section 88. The vertical sections 38 abut against the sill 12, while the horizontal portions 37 rest on the building wall. In the vertical sections 38 provided heles 39, through which extend screws l0 into the sill. The safe abuts against th outer face of the building wall, as clearly shown in 1 of the drawings.
When it is desired. to remove some or all of the articles from th safe, or to replenish the sup )ly, the lower window sash is raised and tile lid 25 of the safe swung around its hinges into substantiall vertical position, in which its hinged lon u iinal edge rests l 18 or the outer box 15. Inasmuch as a continuous circulation of air takes placethrough the holes 33 and 34-, the closed space between the two boxes constitutes a refrigerating chamber.
What I claim is A window provision-safe, comprising an outer receptacle, an inner receptacle spaced therefrom, a frame connecting the upper edges of said. receptacles so as to provide a single closed space therebetween said frame serving also to space said receptacles, a lid hinged to one of the upper edges of said outer receptacle, and downwardly projecting flanges on the free edges of said lid overhanging the walls of said outer receptacle, the hinged edge of said lid projecting beyond said receptacle and being adapted to abut against the r spective wall of said outer receptacle when said lid is in open position,'the bottom and certain walls of said outer receptacle being provided with apertures.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 18th day of March, 1920.
