DEFLECTOB roa FILL-PIPES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 20, 1921.
Application filed January 8, 1920. Serial Nd. 349,331.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, LIN'NAEUs E. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Deflectors for Fill- Pipes, of which the following is a specifi cation.
My invention relates to fill-pipes, that extend upwardly into vessels for holding liquids; and the purpose is to divert the into the vessel through the fill-pipe, directly downward along the outside of the pipe, so as to create the least possible disturbance of the body of liquid in the vessel.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, is a vertical axial section through the end of'the fill pipe and deflector in position for use, while the spider is not sectioned, and Fig. 2, is a plan view of the same with the parts thereunder shown in dotted lines; Referring now to the drawings, A, is the open ended fill pipe. i B, is a deep cup-shaped deflector adapted to fit loosely over the open end of the fill pipe concentric therewith, and divert the liquid down along the outside of the pipe.
C, is a spider, whose webs c, are of such size and form as to seat closely against the inside walls of the pipe and remain firmly in position. The spider may be pressed into position and then either'sweated or soldered in, if necessary to withstand the force of the flow of liquid. At the top these webs extend outwardly to seat upon the end of the'pipe and hold the deflector suitaably spaced from the pipe as will hereinafter be described.
The conjunction of the webs with each The liquid being pumped to the vessel (not shown) through the fill-pipe passes out of the top of the pipe freely at all points except at the small spaces occupied by the webs, and takes the course indicated by the arrows.
The spider and deflector may be cast together ifdesired, but are shown made separately and united for convenience in manufacture. I I
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States In combination with a fill pipe adapted to discharge upwardly into a containerg a 'tubular hood adapted to seat concentrically thereon and extend downwardly, a plurality of radial vanes within the hood ofsuflicient radial width at the top toextend over and seat upon the upper curb of the fill pipe, and extending thence downward within the fill pipe to maintain the concentric relation of the hood thereto.
. In testimony whereof T have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
