IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTON-FASTENINGS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,008, dated June 17, 1873; application filed April 9, 1873.

.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known. that I, DoMEnIco CANNATA, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improved Button Fastening, of which the following is a specification:

" This invention consists in the combination of a metal loop applied to the eye of a button, and notched in opposite edges of its two arms or branches, with a perforated and notched plate applied to the back of the article to which the button is to be fastened behind the latter. The arms of the loop are passed through the article and also through the aforesaid plate, and their notches are fitted to the notches in said plate, and afterward. their ends are bent over the back of the plate, whereby the button is fastened in a very secure and permanent manner.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a button with a loop applied. Fig. 2 is a like View of the plate; and Fig. 3 is a sectional View, showing the but-ton fastened to some garment or other article.

A is the button. It is of ordinary make, having an eye,.e. A metal loop, 13, having two parallel arms or branches, is threaded through its eye, and serves to attach it to any article, as may be desirable. The arms of this loop are notched in reverse edges, as shown at t i in Fig. 1. O is a metal plate, made slightly .convex, and perforated with a central hole, so that it is constituted of annular form. It is diametrically recessed in the outer side, and notches are formed both in its inner and outer edges.

The arms of the loop B are passed through the article to which the button is to be fastened, and likewise through the plate 0. Itsv notches are made to lock into the notches in the inner circumference of the plate, and its ends are bent over into the recesses in the plate and lie flush with the surface of the plate. Thus the button is secured very strongly, and in such a manner that there is no likelihood of its ever becoming detached by wear.
