Malina FOR DEHYDRATING LIQUIDS soon as coax. a m, CRUDE PETROLEUM, AND

Application filed Kay 12, 1922. Serial No. 560,372.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIGUiu) IVALFRID Ax.- nnn'r \VIKNER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 33 Grainger Street west, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, have invented a new and useful Improved Means for Dehydrating Liquids Such as Coal Tar, Crude Petroleum, and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This tnventionrelates to means for dehydrating liquids, such as coal tar, crude petroleum and the like.
According to this invention a heating vessel is provided with means for keeping liquid therein at a substantiall and with a heating coil just .low this level,
through which coil heating fluid can be circulated, and a pipe. or pipes are arranged in the vessel by which the water vapour exgg pelled from the liquid, and it may be other vapour or vapours, can pass down through the bulk of the liquid whereby the liquid is heated and the vapour is condensed.
The invention is illustrated by the accomas partying drawing, in which Figure 1 is -a longitudinal section, Figure 2 a transverse section and Figure 3 a plan.
The pipe A delivers an excess ofthe liquid to he treated from a reservoir into a chaniso her I provided with an overflow J from which any surplus liquid delivered passes back to the reservoir. This chamber communicates through a pipe K with the bottom of a closed tank B the level of the liquid at in which is therefore kept constant at the constant level disposed above the level of the level of the overflow J. ,Just below the level of the liquid is a series of pipes L to which steam can be introduced through a pipe M and from which it passes away through a pipe N. The water vapour and any other vapour. which are driven oft from the liquid by the heat in the pipes L, pass down through pi'pestO to coils P in which the vapours are condensed so that no heat is lost, and the condensed vapours 'flow away from these coils P' which may be connected if desired to a small condenser. The-dehydrated liquid is removed from the tank B through a pipe Q. i
What I claim is:- 1
In means for deh drating liqfi, the combination of a closed plying liquid to the bottom thereof, means for maintaining the level of the liquid in the tank substantially constant, a heating coil disposed just below that level and .ex-
tendingfrom one side to the other of. the
tank, and a plurality of pipes leading from the interior of the tank and having openings surface of the li uid in the tank, each pipe extending in coi formation from end to end of the tank and finally communicating with the terior of the tank adjacent the bottom.
thereof.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name this 26th day of April, 1922.
