Description

W. A. LOHLKER LADDER AND TRESTLE SHOE Filed Oct. 21, 1922 M04 Z. a; KER.
WWWMJZJ I Patented May 2Q, i24
. a al ang WILLIAM A. LOHLKER, 0F PASADENA, CALIFORNIA.
LADDER AND TRESTLE SHOE.
Application filed Detober 21, 1922. Serial No. 595,958.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. LOHLKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pasadena. in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ladder and Trestle Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to safety devices, and more particularly to nonslipping shoes for step-ladders and the like, and it is an object of the invention to provide a simple, inexpensive, practicable and substantial shoe adapted to be readily applied to the lower ends of step and other ladder legs. Another object is to provide a shoe having suction cups for increasing the gripping efliciency of the shoe.
Other objects and advantages will be made manifest in the following specification of an embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective of a ladder showing the legs thereof equipped with a set of the nonskidding shoes.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of the shoes.
Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section of one ofthe shoes.
Fig. 4 is a bottom end View of a shoe.
The device of the present invention consists of a boot or shoe like structure, preferably of rubber or other elastic material. The upper 2 of the boot or shoe is made of a shape to conform to any given type of ladder leg and the upper is formed with a bottom or sole 3 which has an inclination with respect to the front and rear walls of the upper to correspond with the angle of the bottom end of the leg L of a ladder indicated in Fig. 1, and'so that when the shoe-is applied the upper will snugly fit the lower end of the leg and the end surface thereof will bear evenly upon the sole 3 of the shoe and this will therefore be pressed firmly throughout its length toward the supporting surface on which the ladder may be set up.
A further feature of the invention con 5 sists in providing the sole of the shoe with means for increasing the frictional efli ciency, and preferably such means consists of suction cups 4:, any suitable number of which may be provided on the surface engaging face of the sole.
From the above. it will be seen that these shoes when applied to a ladder will serve to efficiently holdthe same from slip ing about on the supporting surface or p ane. ea
A non-slipping shoe for a stepladderleg,
comprising an elastic upper and an oblong sole which is provided on its bottom with a row of cup-like rings each of a diameter substantially equal to the width of the sole as face.
In testimony whereof I ,have signed my name to this specification.
WILLIAM A. LOHLKER.
