Description
L. ANDREW-S, 2d.
Rntary Blowers.
Patented April 7, 1874.
UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
LEONARD ANDREWS, 2D, or sAoo, MAINE..
IMPROVEMENT IN ROTARY BLOWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,368, dated April 7, 1874; application filed January 22, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD ANDREWS, 2d, of Saco, in the county of York and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Blowers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure lis a side elevation. Fig. 2 is an opposite side view.
Same letters shoe'r like parts.
The purpose of my invention is to provide a convenient and effective device for a fireblotver, to take the place of the ordinary bellows used for such purpose. My invention further intends to haveithe said device portable, in order to add to its convenience in use.
The following is a description of the different parts of my invention, used in combination for the purpose above named.
A is a base, upon which the device rests, and is made in order that Wherever placed the blower may have a proper stand. B is a cylv inder, provided with the induction-openings C,
and having also' the pipe or nozzle D. This nozzle may be made straight, bent, jointed, or flexible, as the intended use of the blower may require. Rising from the base is the frame or standards E. On the arm F is supported and pivoted the lever G, with the connecting-rod H extending from said arm to the crank I. This crank, when rotated, revolves the balance-l Wheel J, which is set upon the shaft K in the frame E. Upon this shaft is rigidly set the large gear L. This g'ear matches With the small gear M set upon the shaft N, upon which is also set the large gear O. This gear last mentioned matches the small gear I), rigidly set on the shaft P', which enters the cylinder B, and has attached to it the fans constituting the blower-wheel. The four gears and the three shafts above described illustrate the method whiehI employ to impart the neces sary speed of revolution to the fan wheel Within the cylinder I, and they are supported in the frame E, as illustrated in the drawing. R is an arm extending from one of the supports or standards E, and bent so as to receive through a hole the hand-lever S. This lever is connected with the crank I, and Works in a horizontal direction, or nearly so. The purpose of this leveris to move the crank I bcyond the center, if it should happen to be in that position when the lever Gr is about to be Worked, in order to rotate the blower Within the cylinder B. The position of the gears is clearly shown in the detail view.
That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- In combination with a rotary blower having standards E, projecting arm F, lever G, and connecting rod H, operating the fanshaft through thc medium of the crank I and intermediate gearing', the arm It, and hand-lever S supported thereby, as and for the purposes herein described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand 'this 17th day of January, 1874.
LEONARD ANDREWS, 2D. Vitnesses:
IRA ANDREWs, FRANK I-I. JoRDANs.
