,nur I: '/P'ar www" u,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SYLVESTER BRISACK AND WILLIAM H. GILBERT, OF WALTON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FIRE-WOOD CARRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,287, dated April 7, 1874; application iiled January 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that we, SYLvEsTEE BEIsAcK and WILLIAM H. GILBERT, of Walton, in the county of Delaware and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Device for Carrying Stove-Wood; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of our woodcarrier. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 is an end view, of the same loaded with wood.
The same letters of reference in the different figures indicate the same parts.
Our invention is designed to provide housekeepers with a light and cheap handled woodcarrier, with which stove-wood can be conveniently handled or carried after being sawed, or sawed and split, from the outside of the yard into the cellar, and from the cellar to the rooms in which it is burned.
Our device is constructed of two or more semicircular sheet-metal strips, A A, one or more similar longitudinal strips, B, two rounds, C C, and a wire bail, D, which has a revolving handle or spool, E, upon it. The sheet-metal strips A A are flexible, and are fastened to the ends of the rounds by bending them around shouldered ends thereof, as shown. The rounds are bulging in form, and overhang the inside of the strips A A, and serve as longi tudinal stops to keep the wood from rising off the said strips while the implement is be ing carried; they also serve as supports to that portion of the wood which is inclosed above them by the bail. The two end strips A A are stayed by the bottom strip B, which is fastened to the said strips by rivets. The bail is fastened to the rounds C C by its ends being bent at right angles and inserted into holes prepared fortheir reception, and this bail is prevented from swinging too much laterally by means of stop-pins a a set in each side, as shown.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The wood carrier constructed of ilexible strips A A, longitudinal strip or strips B, rounds C C, and a bail, D, as and for the purpose herein described.
