CIGAR AND CIGARETTE HOLD.
Application filed May 27, 1922. Serial No. 564,690.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN EZYKOWICH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, iirthe'county of Kings, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar and Ci arette Holders; and I do hereby declare the ollowing to'be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in smokers appliances and particularly to devices adapted for use on cigar and cigarztte holders.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is adapted to be secured to a cigar or cigarette holder and'which is provided with means for engagement with the cigar or cigarette to prevent the latter from being jarred from the holder.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when 95 taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention in connection with a cigar holder.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device removed from the holder.
Fi. ure 3 is a perspective view of a modilied orm of the device showing the device made in one piece with the exception of the cigar clamp.
Figure 4 is an enlar ed longitudinal sectional view through t e holder, showing the moisture absorbing device, and the manner of mounting the clip.
Referring particularlyto the accompanying drawing and more particularly to Figures 1 and 2, there is shown a strip of fiat metal consisting of an arm 10, having one end coiled to form a ring or loop 11, this loop being adapted to receive the finger of the smoker.
Secured o the arm adjacent the 100 11, and disposed transversely thereof is a vertically extending ring 12 of slightly less diameter than ring 11, this ring being'tightly engaged on the forward or cigar re: celv ng end of the holder 13. Pivotally carr1e are the spring pressed cigar embracing jaws 14, having the finger-pieces 15, by means of which the jaws. may be moved away from each other to permit engagement with the ci ar body. 7
y this construction it will be seen that the cigar will be held against accidental remove] from the holder 13 by reason of the fact that the ring 12, is tightly engaged on the holder, and the jaws 14 are disposed and held at a fixed distance from the ring 12. While it is not shown, it will be readily understood that this device may be made for use in connection with a cigarette holder as well as for a cigar holder, this advantage being merely a matter of size.
In the modification shown in Figure 3, the rings or loops 11' and 12, and the arm by the forward end of the arm 10 10, are formed from a single length of suitable material. The gripping jaws 14 are adapted to be secured to the outer end of the arm 10, in the same manner as that shown in Figures 1 and 2.
As clearly seen in Figure 4, there is dis posed withln the bore of theholder 13, av
moisture absorbing-device, which comprises a front flat ring 16, a back flat ring 17, with a small disk of cloth 18, and a small tuft of absorbent cotton 19, between the rings. The ring 17 is slightly smaller in diameter than the ring 16, and has the cavity 20, within which is disposed the cotton 19.
The general outline of the device is conical,
with the smaller end within the portion of the bore adjacent the mouth-engaging end of the holder. This device serves to ataorh the moisture, and oils from the tobacco and saliva, which enter the bore of the holder, to prevent the same entering the mouth of the smoker, and thereby protecting the smoker from the ill efiects of the heavier .poritons of the smoke collecting in the longitudinally under the forward end portion of the mouthpiece and lbhereheyomi the gripping jaws p rear end of the said strip having a downwardly extending ring, a ring on the upper side of the strip ah right angles transverse- 1y thereof and? receiving the forward end of the mouthpiece, the forwerci enoi of the strip being downturneci and epertured, and a pair of spring presseoi cigar and? cigarette FL 4%11 E) i ivetaliy carried by the downtumed; endh y In testimony whereof, I afifix my signature, in the presenee eff two witnesses.
