ATENT OFFICE.
FREE-BURNING CANDLE.
Application filed March 23, 1922.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lVILI-IELM BOEHM, a subject of Prussia, residing at Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Free-Burning Candle, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a free burning candle of the kind in which an illuminating material such, for instance as metallic magnesium is used as a source of light. It is the object of my invention to produce such a free burning candle which is complete in itself and always ready for use. For that purpose I enwrap a part of a holding rod of non-combustible material such asiron or the like, with a foil of metallic magnesium so tightly that said foil gets hold on said rod without the assistance of any other means. To prevent any accidental sliding of said foil relatively to said holding rod I provide the enwrapped part of said holder with a curvature or any other structural departure from the straight line of the main part of the holder. To facilitate the ignition of the wrapping foil I provide at one end of said foil at least one incision whereby tongues of magnesium foil are produced which are apt to readily catch fire.
A free burning candle according to my present invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 represents in elevation, a side view, and Figure 2 a front view of my Figure 3 is a plan view of Figure 1.
The holder of non-combustible material is designated by the reference numeral 1, and is partly enwrapped by a foil 2 of metallic magnesium, the upper end of which foil is provided with an incision 4:, whereby two small tongues 5, 6, are produced which will readily catch fire when being ignited. Towards the lower end I provide a curvature 3 which prevents any relative sliding movement between holder 1 and Wrapper 2.
The free burning candle according to my present invention may be used for making Serial N0. 546,206.
snapshot photos, and will also be appreciated as a childrens toy. Since the burning magnesium is prevented from detaching itself from the holder there is no danger of spreading lire involved in burning such a toy candle.
What I claim is:
1. A free burning candle, comprising in combination, a rod of non-combustible material, and a foil of metallicmagnesium, said foil enwrapping said rod so tightly as to be held in position on said rod.
2. A free burning candle, comprising in combination, a rod of non-combustible material, a foil of metallic magnesium, said foil enwrapping said rod so tightly as to be held in position on said rod, and at least one incision at one end of said foil, whereby the ignition of said foil is facilitated.
3. A free burning candle comprising in combination, a rod of non-combustible material, a foil of metallic magnesium, said foil enwrapping said rod so tightly as to be held in position on said rod, and a curvature within the enwrapped part of said rod and comprising both said rod and said foil enwrapping said rod, whereby said foil is secured against any accidental sliding relatively to said rod.
4:. A free burning candle comprising in combination, a rod of non-combustible ma terial, a foil of metallic magnesium, said foil enwrapping said rod so tightly as to be held in position on said rod, and at least one incision at one end of said foil, whereby the ignition of said foil is facilitated, and a curvature within the enwrapped part on said rod and comprising both said rod and said foil enwrapping said rod, whereby said foil is secured against any accidental sliding relatively to said rod.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
