A. J. DUBEE v S PARK PLUG CLEANER Filed Dec. 31 1921 INVENTOR wrmsss: 9 JL ATTORNEY TED S AID JOSEPH DUBEE, F GLENS FALLS, NEW YORK.
SPARK-PLUG CLEANER.
Application am December 81, 1921. Serial no. 520,447.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Annmnn J. DUBEE, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Glens Falls, in the county of Warren and State of NewYork, have invented new and useful Improvements in Spark-Plug Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to spark plug cleaners, and the principal ob'ect is to provide a device of this nature which shall be simple of construction, cheap to manufacture, and highly eflicient for the purpose for which it is designed.
Another object is to produce a device of this nature whereby the interior of the spark plu may be reached.
via]. these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construclion and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated .in the accompanying drawing,
in which Figure 1 is a view of a spark plug cleaner constructedaccording to my invention and formed both as to handle and blade in a sin le rigid piece. Ji'gure 2 is a view of a similar device conao structed with a jointed blade foldable into the handle.
Figure 3 is a collective view showing several shapes of cross section which may be had by the blade according to the require ments of the particular plug to be cleaned.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in all views.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 represents the handle which may be either 40 integral with the blade asshown in Figure 1 of the drawings or entirellzy separate therefrom as shown at 10 in i re 2-; and 11 represents the blade general y. It will be noticed that the blade 11 tapers from end to end, and on both sides in the preferred form shown. The blade may have any desired cross sectional shape. The long narrow taper of the blade makes it such that it can be inserted in the plug to any desired length and utilized for the purpose of scraping the carbon, soot or dirt therefrom. It also permits of the entire length of the blade being used in the cleaning operation.
It is particularly desired to point out that the difl'erence between this device and a flat blade is that it gives a greater length of cleaning edge and is more readily capable of probing the most remote portions of the p ug.
Besides the taper feature, one side of the blade as at 13 is smooth so as to form a scraper and the other edge is toothed so as to form elements for breaking up the sub stance which is desired to be removed. It will therefore be seen that I have produced a device which while exceedingly simple, includes all necessar elements required for a perfect cleaning 0 a spark plug.
While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention, and Ithercfore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anythin less than the whole of my invention limiter only by the appended'claim.
hat is claimed as new is A spark plug cleaner comprising a relatively thin elongated blade, a handle formed 30 therewith, the said blade tapering from. its point of connection with said handle toward the free end thereof, teeth formed on one side of said blade whereby material accumulating in a spark lug may be broken 35 up, and a knife edge ormed on the other side of said blade for scraping the substance from said spark plug after the same has been broken up by said toothed edge.
a In testimony w ereof I have affixed my no signature.
ADELARD JOSEPH DUBEE.
