a cooking utensil and wherein provision is made for the economical use of the ice or other freezing agency; and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts ofv which the preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a vertical centraliI sectional view of an apparatus embodying the invention.
Figures 2 and 3 are transverse sectional views on the planes indicated respectively by the lines 2-2 and 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figures 4 and 5 are detail views of dashers adapted respectively for mechanical and manual operation.
The apparatus consists essentially of an Aouter ieceptacle 10 fitted with a removable cap or cover 1l connected with the yupper edge of the receptacle bya slip joint 12, said receptacle being provided near its upper edge with an offset forming an interior shoulder 13, an inner receptacle 14 arrangedv concentrically in the outer receptacle and spaced at its side walls and bottom therefrom and provided with a removable cap or cover y15 having a slip joint engagement at 16 with the upper edge ofthe receptacle which is provided near the upper edge of its side wall with an offset forming an exterior.
shoulder 17, and an annular screen 18 seated upon the inner shoulder of the outer receptacle held by clasps or a spring clasp and forming at its inner edge a bearing for the exterior shoulder of the innerl receptacle. The joint between the inner receptacle and its removable cap or cover is preferably supplemented by latches 19' to prevent accidental disengagement vthereof and the inner receptacle is provided with a pivotal bail or handle 2O to facilitate the removal thereof from the outer receptacle and adapted under normal conditions to be housed within the cap or cover of thejouter receptacle.l Said outer receptacle is also provided with a similer bail or handle 21 and a supplemental same.
seat for the inner rece tacle is rovided in the outer receptacle be ow the pane of said screen 17 and consisting in the construction illustrated of a band v22 and a zigzag spacing strip 23. The spacebetween the walls of the inner and outer receptacles constitutes an ice chamber and the inner receptacle is preferably provided with an axial circulating tubeor drum 24; in communication at its lower end with the ice chamber and provided at its upper end with a perforated screen 25. cap 26 is also removably fitted upon the upper end of said circulating tube or drum. f
At its center the cap or cover of the outer receptacle is provided with a neck 27 fitted Witha removable plug or stopper 28, and the cap or coverv of the inner'receptacle is provided with a similar neck 29 extending upward and telescoping into the neck of the cap or cover of the outer receptacle so that the plug or stopper 28 serves to close the Furthermore a Ventilating deviceis provided for the outer receptacle consisting of perforations 30 in the top of the outer receptacle and adapted to be either exposed or coveered by a slide valve '31 accessible from the exterior of the apparatus by means of a knob 32.
The stopper or plug 28 fitted as above described in the cap or cover of the outer receptacle serves as a support for a dasher or beater arranged within the inner receptacle and provided in the construction illustrated with a threaded stem 33 extending through a threaded opening 3e in said plug or stopperand carrying radial blades 35 which support one or more beater heads 36. In the construction illustrated .in-Figures 1 'and 4 wherein provision is made for rotation'of the dasher or beater by means of a crank 37 or other mechanical means, aetuable if de.
sired by power, two beater heads are elnployed in vertically spaced relation for o eration in the inner receptacle between t -e side wall thereof-and the axially disposed circulating tube or'drum 24, and each head consists of inner and outer'annular bands 38 and 39 connected by a zigzag spacing or filler. vstrip 40 so that in the combined rotary and vertical movement of the dasher a comparatively violent agitation of the liquid contents o f the inner receptacle is produced. The radial win s of the dasher preferably consist of loopef rods as shown.
In the simpler form of dasher shown in detail in Figure 5 the construction `lcontemplates the 'use of only one dasher head 36' carried by the rods constituting; the radial blades 35a, and thethreaded stem 33'. is tted with a hand grip lll secured to the'steni a set screw 42 or its equivalent.
Obviously, assuming; that the receptacles are made of suitable rnaterialathe removal of the dasher Will convert the apparatus into a cooking vessel adapted -for use es a double l boiler similar in general construction to that disclosed in rnyco-pendingapplication No., 530,094 filed of even date herewith and in which those features common to theltwo structures are` claimed,-the claims of this application being devoted' particularly to those features of the construction Whielt adapt it particularly for use as an ice cream freezer or a churn wherein the inner receptacle is designed for containing' the liquid or material to be 'treated While the rempart.
ment or chamber ormedby the space loetween' the inner and outer receptacles is adapted for the reception of a tempering or freezing' agency according to the purpose for which the apparatus is beiner used..
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is c l. ln a freezer, a receptacle provided with va removable cover havingq a flanged opening, la plu closing the flanged opening, a cyhntessere Vfor said receptacle, a plug for the cover, and
a` dasher having beater heads telescoping the drum and provided with a stem mounted for operative engagement With and through the plug` to provide for comb-ined" 'standing tubular neck. having. a plug for closing'fthe neck, or' adruln risingl axially fromthe bottom of the receptacle and open at its. lower end, the upper end of the drum terminating; a substantial diste-nee below lthe neck and provided with a cover closed screen, and a dasher telescoping the drum and comprising' a frame and beater heads, the frame of the cla-Sher having a stem mounted for operative engagement with and through the plug' to provide for combined rotary and reciprocating movements of the flasher within the inner receptacle.
il. ln a freezer, the combination With inner and outer receptacles, the former being; supported in spaced relation Within the lat ter and provided respectively with removable covers correspondingly spaced one Within the other, `the inner cover having an ups standing1 tubular neck tting through the top wall oi the outer cover, oliD a cylindrical drum rising axially from' the bottoinfof the inner receptacle with its lower end open in communication With the outer receptacle, the upper end of the drum terminating' a substantial distance below and axially with the neck and provided with a cover closed screen, and a common plug fitting' Within the nec-lr, thereby closingq the same and the outer cover.
lin testimony whereof she a'iixes her signature.
