Description

March 25 1924;
J. 'GEMEINHARDT' CIGARETTE CASE AND L IGHTER Filed Dec. 1, 1.922
Patented Mar. 25,. 1924.
i JOHN-GEMEINARVDT, F LITTLE FALLS, NEW JERSEY.
CIGrRE'lTE CASE AND LIGHTER.
application med December 1, 1922. lseme No. 604,362. y
To all whom t may' concern.' y l Be it known that I,'JOHN GEMEINHARDT, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residingfat Little Falls, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette Cases and Lighters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a cigarette case and lighter device, and the object of the invention is the construction of. a simple and efficient cigarette case which is pro. videdwvith means for holding cigarettes, and discharging same, one at a time,A and at the same time of discharging thecigarette may be quickly lighted.-
lVith the foregoing and other objects in View, my invention comprises certainnovel combinations, constructions andarrangements of parts as will be hereinafter de- --,scribed, illustrated -in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in theappended claims.
- In the drawings:v
Figure 1 lis a view, in elevation, of a device constructed in accordance with the.
present invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan viewv of the device. Figure 3 is a sectional View, t-aken'on line 3-3, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a sectional View, taken 0nline 4-4, Fig. 3, and'looking in the direction of the arrows. f
Figure 5 is a sectional View, taken on line 5-5, Fig. 3, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 6 is an enlarged, fragmentary, vertical, sectional view of the device.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of one of the clgarette containers.
Figure 8 is an enlarged, sectional view, taken on line 8-8, Fig. 7, 'and looking in the directionl of the arrows.
Figure 9 is a sectional view taken on line 9-9.'Fig. 6, showing how the contact arms are insulated from the outer casing.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the main. or outer casing, and 2 designates the auxiliary or inner casing. The inner casing preferably extends through vthe top 3 of the outer casing 1, as clearly shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 6. In the extended portion of the inner casing is a iiashlight 4,'
inner casing 2 is a battery' 5 which is suitably connected to the flashlight 4 for causing the same to be illuminated at the will of the operator. y
The botton'1`6, of the outer casing 1, is hinged, at Fig. 1,- to the casing 1. The hinged bottom 6 allows the battery 5 to be placed in theV inner casing, and the cigarette containers 8 to be placed between the inner 65 and outer casings, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
Each container 8 is tubular-shaped, and is open both at its top and bottom. The bott-om of lthe container 8 is bevelled at 9, and this bevelled edge terminates'in an in- 70 verted, V-shaped slot 10. Inwardly-extend inglips 11 are formed upon the lower end of the. container 8 for holding the cigarette up a slight distance above the hinged bottom 6, so that the lower end 12,` of the lifter l device 13, will readily be positioned under the lower end of the cigarette to be lifted out ofthe container 8.
Each container 8 is provided upon its side witha pair of anges 14 and with a 80 lug 15. Each container is also provided with a grip 16. The containers are linked together with an endless chain (Fig. 4) by having a lug 15 of each container fit between the Harige ,14 ofthe next contiguous container. The operator can place his finger vin the op'ening 17, causing the linger-nail to engage the grip 16, pushing the container, or containers, around the inner casing so that, successively, the containers are placed .parallel with an outwardly-bulged portion 18, in which the lifter device 13 is mounted. As each container v8 reached its parallel position with portion 18, the lower vend 12,
of the lifter device 13, comes under the M cigarette in the container 8, and by the operator lifting `on the knob 19, the cigarette can be lifted to the position shown by dotted lines 20, Fig. 6, whereupon the operator can grip, by hand or mouth, the cigarette le@ and draw it entirely out of the containerI and casing, and with the lifting of the lifter' device 13, the upper end of said device will come in contact with both of the ends 21tl of The arms 2l are suitably insulated from the top 3 of the outer casing, as shown in Fig. 9. The arms 21 are in contact with the battery 5, so that when the lifter device closes the circuit between the ends 21*L of said arms, the heating of the ends to an incandescent degree, or red hot,`will be accomplished for affording a ready lighter from the cigarette, that is extracted, or has been 'extracted from the casing. p
To fillthe containers 8 all that is necessary is to open the bottomofthe device and place the cigarettes in the containers and then close the hinged bottom 6.
It isv to benoted' that the end 12, of the lifter device 13, will readily ride up the bevelled ed es 9, thence into the inverted, V-shaped s ot 10, for readily lifting the cigarette, upon the operator raising the knob 19.
While I have described the preferred einbodiment of my invention, andhave illustrated the same in the accompanying-drawings, certain minor changes or alterations ma appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as -shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim isz' 1. In a device of the class described, the combination of an inner andan outer casing, said outer casing provided with an opening, a plurality of containers between said casings, each container providedy at one side witha pair of parallel flanges and upon its other side with a lug, the lugs .of the containers fitting between the parallel flanges, each container provided with a grip, said grip adapted to be positioned contiguous to saidopening in the outer casing forperxnitting an operator to propel the containers around the inner casing; and means for lifting cigarettes out of the casing from the containers.
2. In a'device of the class described, theY combination with a casing, of a container within said casing, arms contiguous to said container, means connectin a source of electricity to said arms, a liting device cooperating with the container and also with said arms, whereby, when the lifting device is moved relative to the container the saine will close a circuit across Vsaid arms, whereby portions of the arms are heated for permitting a'cigarette to be lighted.
3. In a device of the class described, the
combination of a' casing provided with a bulged portion, a container carried by said casing and adapted to register with said bulged portion, a lifter device slidably mounted upon the bulged y portion, said lifter device provided with a knob extendimg through the bulged portion, device provided with a` lower Aend extending into the container, contact arms carried .by the casing and havingtheir outer ends contiguous to the container, said lifter de- Vice adapted to engage the outer ends of the contact arms and close a circuit therebetween, Vand means for supplying electricity to4 lsaid arms. Y
4.' In a device of the class described, the combination with an inner and outer casing,
said lifter said outer casin provided with a "finger opening, a plura ity of containers between said inner and outer casings and adapted to pass by said finger opening, means on each container for allowlng the linger of the operator to propel the containers, and
.means for ejecting a cigarette from each of said containers;
i 5. In a device of the class described, the
combination of a casing, a container within said casing,
lower, bevelled end and with supporting said container provided with a.
lips or flanges on said end and with anin-HV uous to said end,
verted V-shaped slot conti and a liftin device exten ing into said end and adapte to enter said V-shaped slot for lifting a cigarette within said container.
In testimony whereof VI hereunto aix my signature. y
JOI-IN GEMEINHARDT.
