Be it known that I, CHARLES MATTHEW MAYO, a citizen of the Unitedl States, and a resident of Indianapolis, county of Marion,
and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful 'SepticlTank; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying draw-.
ings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention relates to a septic tank for sewage disposalwherein the sewage passing into said tank will be eiiiciently disposed of,
16 reference being had to Patent No. 1,046,097 to McKnight and No. 1,389,553 to Hyman. The main object of the invention is to provide such a tank which maybe formed from a minimum number of parts for shipment te the point of installation and there installed by unskilled workmen or the purchaser of the tank.
The chief feature of the invention lies in the formation of the various slabs embodied in the tank and the provision of intermediate partition slabs formed of a single piece with a deflecting rib and adjacent longitudinal opening therein through which the sewage may pass, the various sections being so arranged that their joints do not coincide,
so as to strengthen the structure and minimize leakage.
In addition to the foregoing there is provided an inlet pipe having a double opening ss so as to prevent congest1on of the sewage passing therethrough.
The full nature of this invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and c claims. y n

;` In the drawings there is shown a septic tank formed from a plurality of concrete slabs cemented together in the usual manner. The bottom of the tank comprises the bottom slabs 10 and 11 having a tongue and groove connection at their abutting edges, said slabs being provided with upwardly extending ribs or tongues 12 on the top surface thereof for engaging in the correspending grooves of the partition and end slabs. The ends are formed by the end slabs 13 supported upon and cemented to the bottom slabs 10 and 11. The side walls are formed by the side slabs 14 and 15 which are cemented to the side of the tank so that their abutting edges are out of alignment e@ with the abutting edges of the bottom slabs.
The top of the tank is formed of three curved top slabs 16 supported at their respective ends upon the end and partition slabs, and along their lateral edges upon @e the tops of the side slabs 14 and 15. Intermediate the ends of the tank there are partition slabs 17 and 18 having grooves along their bottom edge adapted to lit over the projections or tongues 12 and supported at 70 the top by their connection with the top slab 16. The partition slabs are spaced substantially equal distance from each other and from the endsV of the tank, and are formed of' a single slab extending the full 76 width and height of the tank. The partition slabs divide the tank into three compartments, the inlet and outlet compartments eing joined by a gas conducting pipe 19 exten ing through the partition slabs near a0 the top thereof, for conducting the gas which may accumulate in the inlet compartment directly to the outlet l compartment, and thereby preventing it from being forcedl back through the inlet pipe. es
In the lower portion of each of the partition slabs there are laterally extending slots or openings to permit the passage of the sewage therethrough. Said openings are provided with inclined edges so as to prevent any accumulation of the sewage therein. Immediately above the openings 20 there are deflectingribs 2l moulded upon the face of said partitions and extending horizontally from one side to the other. Said ribs are-angular'in cross section and are for the purpose of preventing the sewage entering the-tank from passing down adjacent the slab 17 and through the opening therein.
As arranged, said ribs 21 will deflect the 100 descending sewage away from the opening so that the solids contained therein must either rise from the bottom of the chamber or pass horizontally thro'ugh the opening into the adjacent chamber.
Mounted in the end wall 13 adjacent the inlet chamber there is an inlet pipe 22 .formed from the usual sewage pipe T, said pipe having a horizontal opening 23 and a downwardly extending opening 24, so that the sewage entering said pipe will ordinarily be discharged downwardly through the opening 24, but an f congestion or backing up will be prevented since it will alwaysbe 5S free to pass through the horizontal opening 23. After the sewage passes through the openings in the partitions and through the several chambers, the water or liquid portion thereof will rise in the outlet chamber i0 and pass out through the discharge pipe 25 in the usual manner.
