Description

Jan. 22, 1924. C. C. CRASWELL CANDLE BASE Filed Feb. 20. 1922 Giaucie G Crdawelz Patented Jan. 22, 1924.
CLAUDE C. CRASWELL, O'F WHITING, INDIANA. ASSIGNOR TO STANDARD OIL COMPANY, OF WHITING, INDIANA, A CORPORATION OFINDIANA.
CANDLE BASE.
Application filed February 20, 1922. Serial No. 537,929.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Caxton C; (naswrah a citizen of the United States, residing at p 241 Laporte Avenue. \Vhiting. in'the county 5 of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Candle Bases, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to candle l bases or candle sticks and will be more fully understood from the following description,
illustrated by the accompanying drawings.
suitably be formed entirely of wax, as indicated in the drawing, in which the numeral 5 designates the body of the candle stick or 30 base .and the numeral 6 the opening pro- -vided therein for the reception of the candle.
Such a candle base may be-made by casting a round block .of wax and turning it down to the desired shape forthe candle base. It
readily apparent that any form of strengthening inserts may be employed. if desired, for example. of metal, fabric, wood,
.or any other suitable material.
A candle base .constructcd in accordance with the present invention. and having a surfacc formed entirely of wax, matches the candle employed in connection with it in texture and transluccncy, and can be colored, or dipped in the same manner as the candle thereby acquiring an external a mcarancc closely corresponding to that of the candle itself, this llQlllg'iIllpOSSllllG with candle sticks of the usual construction of other niaterials with applied designs or color patterns. Forexample. when used with inulticol n-cd candles coated in the manner described in the co-pending application of Jesse G. Brinker and Claude C. lllcNcil, Serial No. 486,046, filed July 20, 1921, the wax surface candle base can be dipped or. coated in a similar manner and with the same or harmonizing colors.
It is readily apparent that the candleniay be made of wax of uniform color throughout, or wax of several-colors may be employed in this manufacture to produce a candle base having colored designs therein, or of mottled appearance. i
I claim:
' As an article of manufacture,\ a candle holder formed from wax and adapted to receive and removably support a wax candle.
