f i Applieation filed December 8, 1922. Serial Ito. eoaere.
To all whom it may 0011mm;
Be it known that we, Cnannrs R. Srmn and SAMUEL MOMAHON, citizens of the United States, residing at Somerville in the county of Somerset and State of ew Jersey, have invented new and useful improvements in Holders, of which the followmg is a specification.
, An object of this invention is to produce a holding device for compressible tubes which contain paste for shaving, tooth cleaning, etc., and wherein means is provided for rollin the tube from the closed end thereof to orce a desired quantityfof "paste from the open end thereof, after the cap closing said end is removed.
t is a further object to produce an article of this character whose body is constructed from a single sheet of suitable metal or other material, the same having spaced ears to receive a slotted shaft, the closed end of a compressible paste containing tube being received in the slot of the shaft, the other endof the said tube being received in a member which is slidable-upon the body so that when the tube is compressed, compensation will be made for the reduced len th thereof.
A; still urther object is to produce a holder or en port for. compressible tubes which is particularly adaptable for support: in I tubes containing tooth paste, in which a s otted shaft is rovided to receive in the slet. thereof the c osed end of the tube, the open end of the said tube having its screw neck passing through an o ening in a slidable follower member an threadedly engaging one of a pluralit of different sized ,openings in a late carrled by the follower member, where y thethreaded neck of the tube is secured on the followenthe construction-being such as to provide a support for a'number of tooth brushes. 'lo the attainment of the foregoing and otherobjects which will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood,.reference-is to be had to the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
lln the drawings Figure 1- 'is a front elevation of the lam provement,
Figure 2 is an approximately central vertical longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
l igure'3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a view of the slotted shaft.
l i ure 5 is a perspective view of the slide or f0 lower member. 7 I
Fi ure 6 is a similar view of the plate whic is removably and adjustably associated with the slide or follower member.
Fi ure 7 is a view of the blank from whic the body of the improvement is formed.
As disclosed by Figure 7 of the drawings, the body of our improvement is preferably formed from a single strip of material, metal body,.1ndicated b the numeral 1 has its lower end flange inwardly, as at 2 and referred. The main portion of the from thence outwardly at a right angle I with respect to the portion 2. This last mentioned angle end 3 is parallel to the .body'l, and preferablyhas its sides cut inwardlyand its end rounded, the last men tioned portion being provided with. an opening throughwhich is passed a screw that enters the sustaining means for the imso provement. The strip 1 has its opposite or upper end widened, as at 4, the said widened portion having a reduced extension 5 which, however, is wider than the stripl.
In a line with the edges of the extension 5 as the outer ends of the portion at are bent outthe said portion 4:, to provide ears 6, and
preferably these ears have their outer edes rounded. The portion 5 is bent rearwarly and right angularly with respect to the portion a, and is arranged parallel with the angle portion 2 at the bottom of the strip 1. The outer end of the said portion 5 is bent outwardly at a right angle and the edges of this portion 7 are cut'inwardly and the center thereof is rounded outwardly and provided with an opening. through which passes the second securing element. For distinction, I will refer to the inwardly bent or angle portion" 5 of the improvement as a shelf, the same being provided with spaced elonated openings 8 for the hanles of tooth brushes.
'llhe ears 6 have aligning openings which are round and which are designed to receive therethrough a shaft 9. The shaft has a longitudinal groove-l0 to receive therein the flattened, widened and closed end of a tube 11 which contains paste, the same, in the passage of 21' is removed from the threaded present instance being in the nature of tooth pression thereof by its winding on the shaft- 9. The plate 13 has one of its edges formed with a downwardly extending or right angular portion 14, and the edges of this portion 14 are bent over the edges of the strip 1 and are further bent against the inner face of the said strip. By this arrangement it will be noted that the follower plate 13 is supported at an outward right angle on the strip 1. v
he follower plate 13 has its outer edge formed with an inwardly directed flange 15 designed to serve as a support for a slidable plate 16. The plate 16 has one of its ends formed with a handle portion 17 and has its body provided with any desired number of spaced rounded and threaded openings 18.
The follower plate 13 has a centrally enlarged rounded opening 19 through which the threaded neck portion 20 of the tube 11 passes. The tube, before being engaged by the shaft has i s neck screwed in one of the openings in the slidable plate 16 when the proper opening is brought to register with the opening 19 in the follower plate 13. This causes the locking of the tube to the slidable plates 16 and to the follower plate 13. The follower is then moved so that the closed end f the compressible tube 11 will be received in the slot 10 of the shaft 9. In use, the cap neck or mouth of the tube 11, and the shaft 9 is turned in its bearings to wrap or wind the closed end of the tube 11 therearound. This forces a quantity of the paste through the mouth or neck portion of the tube. This paste ma britsles o a tooth brush, or on to the bristles of a shaving brush, when shaving paste is employed. With our improvement, the entire contents of the tube 11 are used, and the annoying and unsatisfactory method of compressing the tube by handis. effectively overcome. The improvement is' ornamental in appearance, may be cheaply manufactured and marketed and will successfully-perform the functions for which it. is devised, but it is to beunderstood that I do not wish to be be readily delivered on to the .end of the tube therein,
journaled transversely of the support having 7 a slot therein to receive the closed end of the tube, and an operating handle for the shaft.
2. The combination with a paste containing tube, of a holder therefor, including a strip having an angle lower end secured to a support, its upper end widened and also arranged at-an angle and likewise secured to the support, the inturned portion of the last mentioned end providing av shelf which is slotted, outstanding ears on the ends of the widened portion in a line with the, edges of the shelf, a follower plate slidable on the body of the holder to receive the threaded mouth of the tube therethrough, means for locking the tube to the follower member, a slotted shaft journaled in hearings in the ears, and receiving in the slot therethrough the closed end of the tube, and an operating handle 'for the shaft.
3. The combination with a paste containing tube, of a holder therefor, including a strip having an angle lower end secured to a support, its upper end widened and also arranged at an angle and likewise secured to the support, the inturned portion of the last mentioned endprovidinga shelf which is slotted, outstanding ears on the ends of the widened portion in a line with the edges of the shelf, a follower member slidable on the body having an enlarged opening therethrough, to receive the threaded neck of the tube therethrough, a plate slidably associated with the follower member and having spaced threaded openings of varying slzes, one of which designed to be arranged beneath the opening in the follower member and to have screwed therethrough the neck of thetube, a slottedshaft journaled in the ears of the body and receivlng the closed and an operating handle for theshaft. a
In testimony whereof we afiix our signa- ,tures.
