UNITED STATES JUAN ANTONIO XEREZ BURGOS, OF IVIALOLOS, BULAGAN, PHILIPPINE ISLANDS.
LIQUID-FUEL BURNER.
Application filed December 12, 1922. Serial No. 606,438.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JUAN AN'roNIo X. BURGOS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Malolos, Bulacan, Philippine Islands, have invented new and useful Improvements in Liquid-Fuel Burners, of which the following is a specification.
It is my purpose to improve and simplify the general construction of the burners of liquid fuel burning stoves and to provide a burner which will embody comparatively few parts and these so arranged and crelated as to reduce the possibility of derangement to a minimum.
Furthermore, I aim to provide a burner which may be manufactured and marketed at small cost and which will operate efficiently under all conditions.
.Vith the above recited objects in view, and others of a similar nature, the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the burner.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View through the burner.
Figure 3 is a top plan View of the same.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a view in side elevation showing the valve connection between the fuel pipe and the burner.
In the present instance, the burner comprises a horizontal hollow retort section 14 that is substantially rectangular in outline and has its under side formed adjacent to its ends with openings 15, 16, respectively, and its 0 central portion between the openings 15, 16
of concavo-convex outline in its longitudinal dimension, as at 17. Connected to the opening and depending from the section 14 is a pipe section 18 that is curved downwardly and terminates in a straight section 19 arranged approximately at the vertical center line of the section 14. Threaded onto the lower portion 19 of the pipe 18 is a nipple 20 and encircling such portion 19 immediately above the nipple 20 is a starting pan 21. Connected with the opening 16 and extending downwardly therefrom is a pipe section 22 having its lower end curved inwardly and terminating in line with the vertical center of the block 14 and above the vertical portion 19 of the pipe 18. The last mentioned end of the pipe section 22 is equipped with a burner tip 23.
Mounted upon the pipes 18 and 22 a short distance below the horizontal portion 14 is a flanged supporting ring 24 and seated in the supporting ring 24 is the lower end of an annular band 25, the upper end of which is flared outwardly, as'at 26. v
The nipple 20 may be connected by an elbow 27 with a horizontal pipe section 28 that is equipped with a manually operated controlling valve 29. The outer end of the pipe section 28 may be connected by a T- coupling 30 with a liquid fuel supply pipe 31. The pipe 31 is adapted to be connected at one end with a liquid fuel tank.
In practice the valve 29 may be opened, so as to permit the liquid to flow through the nipple 20, pipe section 18, horizontal section 14 and pipe section 22 to the burner tip 23. When the valve 29 is opened the gasoline, alcohol or other fuel is poured into the pan 21 and ignited, thereby heating the burner initially, so that the fuel in the section 14 may be vaporized in order that the vapor may flow through the burner tip to be ignited. After the vapor flowing through the burner tip 23 is i nited, the heat from the burning vapor wil heat the retort section 14, thereby vaporizing the fuel as it flows to.
the burner. 1
I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of parts embraced in the present and preferred embodiment of my invention with a View to impartng a full, clear and exact understanding of the said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as confining myself to the said specific construction and relative arrangement of parts, inasmuch as in the future practice of my invention such changes or modifications may be made as fairly fall within the scope of my invention as defined by my appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A burner for liquid fuel stoves comprising a horizontal retort section, a supply pipe section leading to said retort section and connected thereto at one end, a burner tube carrying section depending from said retort section at the other end thereof and bent to dispose the burner tip immediately below the center of said retort section, the bottom Wall. of said retort section being concayoconvex in'longitu'dinal section between said pipe sections, a flange supporting ring carried by said pipe sections immediately below said horizontal retortsection anda heat confining annular band carried by said flange supporting ring and encirclingsaidretort section.
2. A burner for liquid fuel stoves comprising-a horizontal retort section, a: supply pipe section leading-to saidQretort section and connecteduthereto at one end, a burner tube carrying section depending from said retort section at the otherrend thereof and bent to dispose the'burnentip immediately below the center ofsaid retort .section, a flange supporting ring. carried by' said pipe sections immediately below said horizontal retort section and aheat confining annular band carried by said flange supporting ring and encircling/said retortsection,
3. A burner for liquid fuelstoves comprising a horizontal retort section, a Suppl pipe section leading to said retort section and connected theretoatone end, a burner tube carrying section depending from said retort section at the other end thereof and the supply, pipe, a coupling also on the supplyp pe and supportingthe pan.
In. testimony whereofl affix my signature.
