To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Gnonen l/V. VVILMOT, a citizen of the United States. and a resident of Hazleton, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Jig-Pan Supporting. and Vibrating Means, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to means for sup porting and vibrating the jig pan of an apparatus for Washing coal and other products of similar character which have intermingled therewith material which it is desired to reinove,such as slate, stone and the like.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide means whereby the extent or length of the vertical vibratory movements of the jig pan may be varied and controlled within certain limits.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby one end portion of the said jig pan may be vibrated vertically through greater distances than the opposite end portion thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved supporting means for the ji pan of a coal washing apparatus or the li e.
Other objects and advantages .of my invention will be pointed out in the detaileddescription thereof which follows or will be apparent from such description.
In order that the invention may be readily understood and its, practical advantages fully appreciated reference may be had to the accompanying drawings in which I have illustrated one form of practical embodiment thereof. However it will be understood that changes in the details of construction may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the said invention.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a central, vertical, longitudinal section of an apparatus for washing coal and thelike provided with means embodying'my invention for supporting the jig pan;
Fig. 2is a top plan view of the said apparatus and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings: 1 designates a tank which is adapted to contain water as indicated. The water and slate or other matter s p r ed from. t e coal or other product are adapted to be discharged from the tank through an opening at the bottom thereof controlled by a valve, as indicated at 2, which valve is adapted to be actuated by means of a hand lever 3 and rod 4. I
The opposite side walls of the jig pan 8 are secured to the lower ends of supporting bars 10 the upperends of which are Socured to the supporting rails 11. The rear ends of the rails 11 are secured to eccentric straps 12 supported upon eccentrics 13 upon the shaft 14. The said shaft 14 is driven in any suitable manner, as by a driving belt indicated by dot and dash lines 15 and the wheel indicated by the circular dot and dash line 16.
The opposite forward and outer ends of the rails 11 terminate in widened and enlarged portions 16 each having a horizontal slot. 17 therein. Blocks 20 are slidably mounted in said slots, which blocks are provided with cylindrical holes 21 which extend horizontally therethrough. Relatively short stud shaft 23 extend through said holes. The outer ends of said stud shafts are provided with square heads 25 which are adapted to be adjustably secured in theunder-cut slots 26 in the inner faces of the revoluble disks 27 secured to, the inner ends of the revoluble shafts'iiO. The shafts 30 are provided with rigidly connected wheels 31 which are adapted to be driven by belts 32 which in turn are driven by wheels v33 (only one of which is shown) upon the shaft 14:. The heads 25 are se-. cured in the slots 26 by means of the adjustable nuts 34 upon the stud shafts 23.
If the stud shafts 23 are adjusted so that they are in axial alinement with the shafts 3O rotation of the latter will have no effect upon the outer forward end portions of the rails 11. In other words, said rails will be oscillated by the eccentrics 13 about the sta tionary axes of the shafts 30 as centers. If, however, the stud shafts 23 are adjusted into positions out of alinement with the shafts 30 the outer or forward ends of said rails will be vibrated vertically. The extent of thevertical vibrations or displacements will depend upon the amount of displacements of the axes of the shafts 23 with respect to the axes of the shafts 30. In the latter case it will be understood that the blocks 20 slide back and forth in the slots 17. It will tate in synchrony with the shaft 14. The shafts 23 may be adjusted so as to cause even agreater amount of vertical vibration of the outer or forward ends of the rails 11. than that imparted to the opposite rear ends thereof by the eccentrics 13 The mixture of coal and matter to be separated therefrom is delivered into the jig pan 8 from the chute 35 and the washed coal is discharged from the jig pan through the chute 36 while the slate and other heavy matter are discharged through the passageway at 37. It will be seen that it is desirable that the forward movement of the coal,
slate, etc., shall be facilitated, and it is apparent that this may be effected by adjusting the stud shafts 23 into, positions in alinement with the shafts 30. When these shafts are so adjusted the vibrations of the rear or left hand end portion of the jig pan 8 will be greater than the opposite forward end portion thereof. The result of this is that the forward movement or feed of the coal, slate, etc, is facilitated so as to effect more rapid washing and cleaning of the coal or other similar material.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1 In a ig, the combination of a pan, horizontally extending means situated above andextending across the said jig pan for supporting the same, means including an eccentric for supporting one end of said horizontally extending means, and means for supporting the opposite end of said horizontal means, the said last mentioned sup porting means comprising a revoluble member adjustable toward and from its axis of revolution.
2. In a jig, the combination of a pan,
'bars situated a distance above and extexling across said jig pan, means for rigidly secnring said jig pan to said bars, eccentrics for supporting one end of each of said bars, one end portion of the said pan being connected ,to the said barsrelatively near the points of their support upon the said eccentrics, and the opposite ends of said bars beino' adjustably supported.
3. n a jig, the combination of a jig pan, horizontally arranged bars situated a distance above and extending across the said jig pan, meansfor supperting one end of each of said bars, the said means being adapted to effect vibration the said bars, adjustable means for supporting the opposite ends of said bars, the said means being adapted to be adjusted into position to prevent vibration thereof or into. position to effect vibration as may be desired, and means for rigidly connecting the said jig pan to the said bars, one end portion of the said jig pan being connected to the said adjacent the first ends thereof;
4. In a the combination of a jig pan, horizontallyarranged bars situated a distance above said jig pan and extending across the same, a revoluble shaft having eccentrics on which one end of each of said bars is supported, revolubledisks situated adjacent the opposite ends'o'f said bars, means for adjustably connecting the said disks to the said opposite ends, and means for rigidly connecting the said pan to adjacent the opposite ends of said bars be- I yond the opposite side of the said jig pan from the said eccentrics, said disks having slots upon the inner faces thereof, means adapted to be adjustably secured in the said slots, means for slidably connecting the said last mentioned means with the said opposite ends of thesaid bars, and means for connecting the said jig pan with the said bars, one end portion of said jig pan being connected to the said bars at points relatively near the said eccentrics.
6. In a the combination of a pan, supporting means situated a distance above andextending longitudinally with respect to said pan, rotatable eccentric means for supporting said means atone end, the said supporting means. having connection with the said pan at a point relatively near the said eccentric means and the said S111),- porting means being provided at its, opposite end with a len 'tudinally extending slot, a slidable member within said slot, a revoluble member, adjustable means connected with said revoluble member and having connec tion with said slidable member in said slot.
