Be it known that we, WALLER Crow and JOHN C- SCHAFFER, each a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania,
have invented new and useful Electric Sepa-- rators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mechanisms for grading or the separation of divided materials into particles of difierent sizes.
This invention has utility when incorporated as an electric vibrator and as herein shown is equipped with a perforate material carrying floor or screen.

A base 1 is provided upstanding from which, as two pairs, extend stems -2. The
material carrying device proper comprises a pair of angle 1I0I1 side bars 3 of the main frame connected by bracing members 1 therebetween. The side angle frame members 3 are shown as providing seats for auxiliary angle bars 5 which by means of bolts 6, may have a platform attached thereto. The perforate platform is herein shown as a screen 7. @wing to the quick action with limited amount of travel, it is desired that the platform 7 be drawn very taut and in effecting adjustment thereof, bolts 8 are provided extending through the angle frame 3, which may be tightened up by the nuts thereon It is desirable further that this angle 5 be not tilted in this drawing up 1 and to avoid such, a bar 9 may be inserted between the upstanding legs of the angles 3 and 5. The bar 9 isselected for size of adjustment and drawing up of the bolt 8 able, owin .bucking each upper bracket 10 and a lower bracket11, each carrying a sleeve 12 guided on the stem 2. These stems 2 of the sectional supporting means for the frame are anchored to the main base 1 by nuts 13.
Carried by the base 1 between the stems 2 are shown base plates 14 upstandingfrom which are pedestals 15 carrying laminations 16 of an alternating current electro-magnet. On one leg of each of these laminated electro-magnets or members is a coil 1'5 To one side of each coil 17, the pedestal 15 carries a bearing pin 18 for a rock arm or lever 19 overhanging the one side of the leg of the electro-magnet 16 about which extends the coil 17. This arm portion 19 carries a laminated armature 20 which is the armature proper of this magnetic device. This lever 19 remote from the armature 20 has, an eye or sleeve 21 fitting about or coacting with the stem 2.
Mounted on each stem 2 form sleeve 12, is a helical spring 23, the tension of which spring may be adjusted by nuts. 24 on the stem 2. ()f course, as herein shown the loading of the platform is on the sleeve 12 and this provides a normal means for keeping the device loaded down so that the tilt of the armature lever 21 is down against nut 22 which maybe adjusted to limit the rocking of the armature 20 away from the plate of the electro-magnet 16. 2. A material carrying platform, carrying means for the platform including magnets and armatures pivotally connected to the magnets to provide platform shaking joints in the carrying means.
3. A'material carrying platform, carryin means for the platform including a pair of alternating current electro-magnets, and an armature pivotally connected to each magnet and loaded by the platform on the o posite side of the pivotal mounting from t e electro-magnet.

7. An inclined frame, a perforate platform in the frame, means for drawing said platform taut, four guide stems for the platform frame, an alternating current electromagnet adjacent each stem, a helical spring on each stem, a sleeve carried by the frame for each stem coacting with the stem below the helical spring, and armatures actuable by themagnets coacting with the sleeves for shaking the frame.
8. Am electro-magnet vibrated screen, mounting means'givingthe screen a position of rest, springs for resisting the electro-magnet throw of the screen and means for ad ust1n toward the position of rest the reslstance o the. springs to the electro-magnet independentlyof changing the position of rest for the screen.
