Be it known that l, IAN EUIOI-IIN MATHE- s or, subject of the King of. Great Britain, and resident of the town of Radville, in the Province of Saskatchewan and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toboggans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in toboggans and the objects of the invention are to provide a toboggan adapted more particularly for a water toboggan slide as described in a co-pending application filed by me.
Further objects are the provision of a toboggan of this char cter so constructed that when it strikes the water it will ride on the surface thereof.
Further objects are the provision of a water slide toboggan constructed of water proof material and provided with an airtight chamber whereby the toboggan is un sinkable.
till further objects are the provision of a water toboggan that will also act as a life saver or support in the event of it upsetting in the water.
,Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists essentially of the device, an embodiment of which is described in the present specification and illustrated by the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.
Referring now to the drawings, in which like characters of reference indicate corre-. sponding parts in each figure,

In the drawings, A represents my improved toboggan as a whole adapted to carry any required number and constructed of a pair of, preferably, wooden runners 10 and 11 connected by a plurality of cross bars 12 running from end to end. The runners 10 and 11 are curved at the front in order that when the toboggan strikes the water it will float or ride on the surface.
Between the runners 10 and 11 is a third or auxiliary runner 13 similarly shaped to the main runners and secured to the cross bars.
The body of the toboggan as described is then completely covered with two ply of canvas 14, making an airtight chamber between the runners 10 and 11. The canvas 14 or other suitable material used is then treated in any suitable manner to make it water or airtight and a valve 15 is inserted for the air chamber in any convenient place to preserve the air pressure inside.

1'? are handles on the sides of the toboggan to permit the carrying of the toboggan when not in actual operation, while on the top of the toboggan are a plurality of handles of flexible material, such as rope, adapted for the occupants to use when sliding into the water and also to act as a life saving means on the toboggan being upset in the water.
It will be noted that the cross bars or braces are placed close together and this is done with a view to ensuring strength and efficiency in carrying the weight of the occupants of the toboggan.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have invented a simple, effective and lightweight water toboggan not only adapted to travel swiftly and satisfactorily on a suitable slide but also fully adapted to act as a life saver on reaching the water in case of accidents where the occupants are upset, the latter being achieved by providing the toboggan with an airtight chamber and covering of waterproof material and also with a plurality of projecting handles for those upset into the water to grasp.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention within the scope of the claim, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
