G. VV. HOWES GAS OVEN Filed June 25, 1923 5 gwueno/a Geo/le M Howes GOQOOOO 61H01 ne i g Patented Dec. 18, 1923.
GEORGE W. HOWES, F DOWAGIAC, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO BECKWITH COMPANY, 0F DOWAGIAC, MICHIGAN.
Gas oven.l
application mea June as, 192e. y seran No. 647,654.
To all lw hom t may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE IV. Howes, a
citizen of the United States, residing at.
Dowagiac, county of Cass, State of Michi- 6 gan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas Ovens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gas ovens.
The main object of the invention is to provide an improved gas oven which is very eiicient in its utilization of the heat units and the heat is very uniformly distributed within'the oven.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects lof my invention bythe devices and means described in the following specification. 'The invention is'clearly defined and pointed out inthe claims.
A structure whichis a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a fragmentary front perspective view of-` my improved oven, parts being broken away to show structural details.
Fig. II is a plan view of the inner top plate wi-th the baffle plates'mounted thereon.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the two views.
.i5 Referring to the drawing, I provide an outer casing having top walls 1,*side walls 2, rear wall. 3, and bottom wall It. The door frame 5 is mountedV upon the front of these casing walls, the door 6 being hinged thereto. The burner 7 is disposed in the bottom of thecasing.
I provide inner side walls 8 and an inner rear wall 9 disposed inspaced relation to the corresponding outer walls of the casing providing air chambers or spaces between the walls. The inner top wall 10 is arranged `upon the upper edges of the side and rear inner walls and has upwardly projecting flanges 11 at its edges, the edges of these flanges abutting the under side of the top wall 1. This inner top wall has a series of circulation openings 12 disposed adjacent its front edge. The inner bottom or defiector plate 13 is disposed above the burner @e 7 with its front and rear edges in spaced in the accompanying drawing, forming 'a' relationto the walls of the casing, providing circulation openings 14 and 15. rlhe top wall 1 has a flue opening 16 disposed centrally and at the rear thereof. A pair of inner baffle plates 17 is disposed between the top walls in spaced relation to embrace this flue opening and extended forwardly therefrom. f i A pair of outer baflie plates 18 is disposed in spaced relation to the side walls or side flanges 11 and with their rear ends in spaced relation to the rear wall or flanges, thus providing passages for the products of combustion.
A transverse baiile plate 19 extends between the front ends of the bai'l'le plates 18, this transverse .plate being spaced from the circulation openings 12, as shown.
With this arrangement of parts, I secure a very uniform distribution and cir- -culation of the heated products of combustion through and over the oven.
I have illustrated and described In improvements in an embodiment which have found very practical. I have not attempted to illustrate 'or describe certain modifications or adaptations which I contemplate as I 'believe the disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to embody` or adapt the improvements as may be desired.
Havingthus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: v
1. In an oven, the combination of an outer casing comprising top, bottom, rear and side walls and provided with a. door, the top wall having a iiue opening disposed kcentrally -at the rear thereof, an inner top wall disposed in spaced relation to said casing top wall and having a series of transversely disposed openings adjacent its front edge, said inner wall being otherwise imperforate, a pair of inner baffle plates disposed between said top walls in spaced relation to embrace said flue opening' and extending forwardly therefrom, a pair of outer baflie plates disposed in spaced relation to the side walls and to said inner baffle plates with their rear ends in spaced relation to the rear wall, a transverse bai-lie plate disposed in spaced relation to said openings in said inner-top wall to extend between the front ends of said outer baille plates, a. burner, and an inner bottom plate disposed above neI said burner with its front and rear edges in spaced relation to the front and rear Wall of the casing providing transverse clrculation openings at the front and rear ot said bottom plate.
2. In an oven, the combination ot' an outer casing comprising top, bottom, rear and side walls and provided with a door, the top Wall having a flue opening disposed centrally at the rcar thereof, an inner top wall disposed in spaced relation to said casing top Wall and having a series of t ansversely disposed openings-adjacent its front edge, said inner wall being otherwise imperfcrate, a pair of inner battle plates disposed between said top walls and in spaced relation to embrace said llue opening and extending forwardly' therefrom, a pair of outer batile plates disposed in spaced relation to theL side Walls and to said inner battle plates with their rear ends in spaced relation to the rear wall, and a transverse baffle plate disposed in spaced relation to said openings in said inner top Wall to extend between the front ends of said outer batiie plates.
3. In an oven, the combination of a casing comprising a top Wall having a tlue' opening disposed centrally at the rear thereof, an inner top Wall disposed in spaced relation to said casing top wall, a pair of inner baille plates disposed between said top walls in spaced relation to embrace said tlue opening and extending forwardly therefrom, a pair of outer batile plates disposed in spaced relation to the side walls and to said inner battle plates with their inner ends in spaced relation to the rear of the casing, a transverse baille plate disposed in spaced relation to the front of the casing to extend between the front ends ot the said outer baille plates, said inner top Wall having air circulation openings therein at the front of said transverse battle plate, a burner, and bottom plate disposed above said burner with its front and rear edges in spaced lation to the front and rear wall of the casing providing transverse circulation openings at the front and rear ot said bottom plate.
l. ln an oven, the combination of a casing comprising a top wall having a flue opening disposed centrally at the rear thereot, an inner top wall disposed in spaced relation to said casing top wall, a pair ot' inner battle plates disposed between said top walls in spaced relation to embrace said tlue opening and extending forwardly theretrom, a pair ot' outer batiie plates disposed in spaced relation to the side walls and to said inner baille plates with their inner ends in spaced relation to the rear ot' the casing, and a transverse batiie plate disposed in spaced relation to the t'ront of the casing to extend between the front ends of the said outer battle plates, saidy inner top wall having air circulation openings therein at the front of said transverse batlie plate.
5. In an oven, the combination ot' a casing comprising top, rear and side walls, the top Wall having a flue opening disposed centrally at the rear thereof, inner side and rear walls disposed in spaced relation to the corresponding casing walls with their upper edges in spaced relation to the top wall, an inner top wall disposedon the upper edges of said inner walls, said inner top wall having upturned flanges at its edges engaging said top Wall, said inner top wall having circulation openings therein, and baille plates mounted on said inner top Wall disposed in such relation to said openings therein and said flue opening as to cause the products of combustion to take a. circuitous passage from said circulation openings to said flue openings.
ln Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
