UNITED. STATES PAT/IENT'TOFFSICE,
GEORGE DE WITT, or GLovERs'vIILLE, "NEW YORK.
UMBRELLA STAND;
Application filed February 8, 1923. Serial No. 617,830.
' the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in articles of furniture, and it pertains more particularly to a device of this character in the form of a com bined umbrella and rubber stand.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide an umbrella stand in.
which a plurality of umbrellas may be placed, said stand being so constructed as to provide a separate compartment for each umbrella.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a separate rack or recess for rubbers and the like.
It is a still further object of the invention to provide mean for catching the drain water from both the umbrellas and the rubbers.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a combined rubber and umbrella rack constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view of the device taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
eferring more particularly to the drawings, the device comprises corner posts 5, of which there are four, connected together by upper longitudinally extendin bars or the like, 6, and transversely exten ing longitudinal bars or the like, 7 Secured to the corner posts 5, intermediate of their ends, is a partition 8, and such partition has its upper face formed with a recessed ortion in the nature of inclined walls 9. nterposed between this partition 8 and the longitudinally extending bars 6, are slats or the like, 10. Dividing the space above the partition 9, into a plurality of compartments, are vertically disposed partitions 11, which are adapted to provide a plurality of individual compartments for the reception of umbrellas.
It will be noted that the end partitions 11 rest upon the horizontal partition 8, the central partitions, however, being spaced with respect thereto to provide space for the free flow of Water draining from the umbrellas. Located below the partition 8, is a partition 12, which latter partition has a depressed portion 13 in the form of inclined walls, which depressed portion is provided with an opening 14 forming a drain. Leading from the partition 8 to a point above the drain opening 14: of the partition 12, is a drain spout 15, which serves to convey the water from the recessed portion 9 of the partition 8 to the drain openin 14.
ounted Within the partition 12 is a plurality of slats or the like, 16, which serve to support rubber-shoes and the like upon the partition 12.
Slidably mounted in guides or cleats 17, is a receptacle 18, which is adapted to receive the drain water from the drain opening 14. The partition 12 is provided on its lower face With a stop 19 which erves to limit the movement of the receptacle 18, and the receptacle 18 is provided with a handle 20 by means of which it is moved to and from position on the under face of the partition 12. The partition 12 is provided on its upper face with guard rails or the like, 21, to prevent accidental displacement of the rubbers with respect to the slats 16.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a new and improved article of furniture which serves to carry a plurality of umbrellas in individual compartments and that the water draining from such umbrellas is amply taken up by the drain to the receptacle 18. Furthermore, the invention provides means for supporting a plurality of rubber-shoes or the like, in such a manner that the drain water therefrom will be carried off to the receptacle 18.
What is claimed is:
A device of the character described comprising a plurality of corner posts, a horizontal partition. Securing said corner posts together, means for dividing the space above said partition into a, plurality of umbrella- 1ast-mentioned partition and a pipe lead receiving compartments, a second partition ing from said first-mentioned partition and arranged below said first-mentioned parti-' disposed directly over said opening for con- 1 tion and seryingas arack for rubber-shoes veying the drip water from each of; said 5 and the like,- aw'ater receptacle removabiy partitions to said receptacle.
carried by the under face of said last-mentioned partition, an opening formed in Said v DE WITT.
